slow-paced

Honestly Marquez writes so beautifully and profoundly. He has his way with the words. It's simply impressive.
Now this is again one of those books which makes one uncomfortable. It's written from the perspective of a 90 year old man who apparently falls in love with a 14 year old.  There are a lot of things to unpack here obviously, a lot of people might assume that Marquez is writing to romanticize pedophila and will judge the author based on this story. But that's simply not correct. 1st of its completely okay for authors to write about bad people and bad things. And in this case Marquez is simply trying to show us the dark side of his time. Historically child prostitution had been common in that part of the world and Marquez had experienced all this ugly stuff and he's simply trying to write about it. He's not romanticizing or glorifying any of it.

I started reading because I wanted to read a short book by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
A lot of the book was repulsing as a woman, because he objectifies a lot of women and lusts for a minor as an old man.
That being said he does develop as a character and it was interesting to see him reflect on his life and what brought him to the stage he's at.
Overall, I don't think I'd recommend this to people unless they want to read something thought provoking and controversial.
