This is very clever story and extremely well written. This is one of my favorite Sherlock Holmes mysteries. I listened to the edition read by Stephen Fry; honestly, he does a brilliant job of reading.

Scorrevole e avvincnte, presenta tutti gli elementi tipici del giallo classico di cui ha posto sicuramente le basi. Una lettura consigliata a tutti gli amanti del genere.

Not as good as the first.

I liked this installment better than the Study in Scarlet, but it still didn't quite do it for me.
It was interesting to see a representation of colonial Britain and the attitudes that came with it.
The plot was also interesting in that the confession bit managed to completely turn the story on it's head.
The little insta-love story with John and Mary I found just hilarious.
Overall it was an enjoyable read.

I am addicted to Arthur Conan Doyle's use of the English language.

“My mind," he said, "rebels at stagnation. Give me problems, give me work, give me the most abstruse cryptogram or the most intricate analysis, and I am in my own proper atmosphere. I can dispense then with artificial stimulants. But I abhor the dull routine of existence. I crave for mental exaltation. That is why I have chosen my own particular profession, or rather created it, for I am the only one in the world.”

Stephen Fry refers to Sherlock Holmes' ability to "read so much from so very little" from a situation. With each of these short stories, I do the same. Stoked as fuck to start the big daddy, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
