I have a lot of thoughts but I’ll try to keep it brief. The main girl has like no personality and the main guy lead is constantly being a douche and angry. Basically guy is a douche and girl gets mad then guy flashes grin at her and girl can’t help but forgive him because of his dreamy smile. This happens at least 3 times in this book... It was a quick read and if I read this 5 years ago I might have enjoyed the insta love and slight misogyny here and there. I think YA contemporary romance from before 2015 is something I won’t be picking up anymore..

2.5-- A quick, breezy read. It was a good story, but I felt Harper gave Penn too many chances. She deserved more and deserved to be treated better. I realize he had issues and was overcoming his circumstances, but... I would have liked to see Penn rise above his circumstances and make better decisions. Both main characters had serious communication issues that really aggravated me. I don't think I've ever wanted to send two fictional characters to therapy before. ;)

It is rare that I give high remarks, let alone five stars, to books I see have low ratings here on Goodreads. Usually I hesitate to read books with an average of less than 3.8 stars, and the number of readers who rate them are not at least four thousand; so you could just imagine how easily I could have refused to read Through To You, knowing the rating was pretty low and the readers really weren't that many.

*I received this book from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review*
I’m not sure what I was expecting in Through To You but it certainly wasn’t what I got. I was expecting this to another regular teenage bad boy meets good girl, and immediately changes everything. That’s not really what this book was about.

Penn has already lost everything he cared about when he truly meets Harper for the first time. Harper also isn’t going to give up her dreams just because Penn is hot and broody. I liked that Harper seemed just like a normal girl, she occasionally skipped class but not enough to cause problems, and she had a dream that she pursued even when it seemed like her relationship with Penn might try to derail her from that. I only say that because a break up in every other young adult book seems to leave the female character crying buckets and forsaking the world. Not here.

Harper was strong, she had emotions and she did end up crying, but it didn’t cause her to give up on life. In fact what made this book so great is that there were many times that Harper stood up for herself, and in the end that’s what she did. I also liked that Penn had to realize that he was being unfair not only to Harper, but himself and even his other friends.

I think what I liked the most about this book was the situations were all very realistic. There were some cliches but it seemed like they were in the background. The exchanges between Harper and Penn felt real. It was also nice because I didn’t notice any of the typical things thrown in just to add extra drama.

Lauren Barnholdt did a great job writing this book and making the characters seem real and believable. I would give the book 4 out of 5 stars, it was a great young adult read and I highly recommend it for those who like teenage romance.

This was not for me! It was actually quite boring. Typical good girl falls for bad guy. While I don’t mind the same plot as other stories, there was nothing to make it stand out at all. I really didn’t like either character. Harper was annoying as hell. She wasn’t experienced with guys and that’s fine, but the girl shouldn’t have put up with his hot and cold attitude. Pen made me want to smack him through the pages. Dude needed to grow up. He wouldn’t communicate anything with anyone. Not with Harper or Jackson or even call his family out their shit. Everything in this book was watered down, I wouldn’t even call this romance. Everything in the end was left out of the story to pursue the so called romance between the two characters. I felt as is nothing was resolved in the end and this book a waste of time.

Possibly a 2.5. Just a lot of back and forth, whiplash decisions, and too many details that just seemed important but lacking

Chick lit, makes teens seem a little stupid. Good beach read.

As far as a**holes go, Penn is the mildly forgivable sort. Harper's submissive tendencies are her downfall. I'm really conflicted with this book. I might change the rating as I draft my review.
