I did not enjoy this one as much... Yes it was unsettling the way they analysed everything and showed videos of the expected outcomes. What I didn't understand was why Annie chose those or was ot simply to make Sam realise she didn't want to use Vitek? What was significance of the old company and Vitek?

Phone booths? Landlines??? Seriously?
I didn't like a single character in this story. It reminded me of a ton of required reading from high school and college that I hated but couldn't quite place my finger on why. I think it may be the old, white, male vibes.

How much say should we have in shaping our offspring?
We are now able to tweak genes, so designer babies are an option.
But what if you could choose your child's whole life by combining genetic engineering and big data statistics?
What line is the one that is too far?

~~

our genes don’t merely express who we are. They contain all manner of talents from previous generations that we may not benefit from personally but that can be passed on to our progeny.

Solid except the ending peters out.

I am empty of any opinions on this one.

The concept of selective eugenics told through menagerie flash forwards is quite interesting, but there was nothing exceptional about the story to push it into the 4 star rands. Probably my least favorite of the four I’ve read so far by how unremarkable it is.

I'll read anything Amor Towles writes.

A novella that examines how much a role our genetics play into our personalities, and what kinds of lives we could lead that can be (theoretically) statistically predetermined. I wish this was longer.

IVF meets AI in a way. Possible futures laid out in front of the protagonist lead to an unexpected choice.
