Probably my least favorite from the Forward series. I still have Ark to read.

I think it would’ve been better if the vision Sam had in the bar was real.

I like the concept but idk the ending was weird… It’s memorable though. Gives you something to think about.

This short story from the amazon original stories "Forward Collection" was pretty intriguing and somewhat entertaining until the end....

In the future, genetic labs are able to help couples have children tailor-made.. not just sex and eye color, but also entire personalities. Potential parents are guided through videos of their future children's entire projected lives. The story was interesting enough but got weird at the end. I understand the point, but I did not like the execution. Overall, it's a skip. 🤷‍♀️

I frequently struggle with shorter form fiction and its often unsatisfying endings, and this was no exception. Well written, disturbing (but intended to be so), and then...meh. But I recognize that's just sort of a characteristic of the genre.

2.75/5 ⭐️

My fourth of the Forward series going in order of length and it’s definitely a worthwhile read so far.

This one could have been a 4/5 or more if it wasn’t for the poorly concluded second half…he went into the bar saw his wife with HT and then ?? Felt like this wasn’t edited properly or definitely not explained properly as he went straight back in the bar and they weren’t there? Did he imagine this and fall asleep? Didn’t explain what he was late for as well and no proper conclusion to any of it as he never spoke to his wife so it feels unfinished.

Such a great opening and concept for Vitek to be able to “genetically nudge” certain parts of DNA to influence temperament! Proper sci-fi black mirror type of concept! Has me pondering how even with the perfect nudging a child will still struggle in different ways depending on their makeup as the “projections” show, every advantage bringing with it a disadvantage! Which makes it even more frustrating that the second half was so poorly executed. Maybe the concept is too much for a short story because it feels like this could have easily been a full book.
