strange & then some
conceptually interesting, but very odd. not a very sympathetic main character. some of the events seemed non sequiturs. the ending was unexpected, but strangely, seemed to bring it together.

Another novella in the Audible / Amazon Kindle "Forward" series, this one tells the story of a man who is getting the spiel from an artificial insemination tech lab. And it surely is advanced! His wife has already picked out 3 possible "futures" for their child, all of which actually weigh pretty heavy on our protagonist.
A story that was interestingly written and excellently narrated but, in the end, I have no idea what it means. It's funny - there was a point where it seemed like a perfect spot to end on a cliff hanger and I was saying "Noooo, you can't end there - I don't know what it means!" and then I was happy there was another chapter. Unfortunately, that chapter only made things more confusing! I hope someone can explain it to me some day.
So more of a 3.5 star story, but I will round up because it was well written. I really need to get to Towles' *[b:A Gentleman in Moscow|34066798|A Gentleman in Moscow|Amor Towles|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1551480896l/34066798._SY75_.jpg|45743836]*. It's been at or near the top of my "Must Read" (as opposed to the 1500 Want To Read) books for a while now. And this does make me want to read it even more, so that's worth .5 star, right? Still feels bad taking credit for a "book" read for this, but you get some gimmes and you work through some monstrosities, am I right?

3.5 it is all a little strange stars
This was a strange story, and in the end much less wrapped up than the others I’ve read in the series.
I liked the idea of what if you could basically pick the child that you are going to have, not only the genetic traits but the probably outcome of their life. What kind of child do you choose when you get to see what their life to their 30s looks like.
It is a little disconcerting for our protagonist to look at the possible child he can have and both the challenges and successes of each. But what if Vitek isn’t just a genetically enhances fertility clinic? I think this story while well written, asks more questions that it actually answered. I’d really like to know where the story went after, more on the bartender and his family, what is Vitek really. This leaves the reader with a very open ending so they can fill in the blanks.
I myself as a reader like my ending a little more defined, but this made me curious as to what other things this author has written.
The narration of David Harbour fit this story perfectly and really encompassed the strangeness of the overall story and the main characters dilemmas

This was a novella/short story in the "Forward" collection by Blake Crouch
This doesn't seem to be the general favorite of the masses but it's been the most engaging for me so far! I was pulled into this story the most and connected with the characters. I felt like there was adequate set-up, an intro to a sci-fi concept, and without even going overboard it led to a chilling near-future. I appreciated the vibe here and also enjoyed the audiobook narration.

Nice story
Interesting story. With all the different genetic outcomes for the child. Like they would know how someone would grow up and become down to a personality.
