You Have Arrived At Your Destination is a science fiction story about genetic engineering. I have not read any of Amor Towles' work before. This was my first story.

The story follows a couple, Annie and Sam in a futuristic setting who want to have a child. They also want to give their child the best chance possible. They have an option of genetic "nudging" where they can look at projections of their child's future and select the best one. Sam goes to Vitek which shows him three projections of his unborn child collected from data collected from several sources with statistical analyses. We wonder which one Sam will pick.

The term genetic engineering is pretty common but I loved the way this story has been told. It is also a bit chilling. We do not see the usual arguments about playing God. The story takes an entirely different route which is very refreshing. Avery thought provoking read!

I love the eerie feel this collection has and this book is no different. This dark take on what the world could be like if you can choose everything about your child's life is sobering.

It’s cute how much weight they put on their predicative model, as if random tragedies not of our own making aren’t a thing. And how much the character believed it, as if it wasn’t a card house built on assumptions (life is not the same as the credit score algorithm, which is bias af and not necessarily accurate as it is more self fulfilling anyway).

Still, about one of these stories that make you think. Well enjoying the forward collection!

An interesting take on someone going through the process of genetically engineering their child. We see how the main character struggles with what his potential children could be in light of what he's done with his own life. I didn't particularly love the ending, and also the weird idea thrown in that
the IVF company is actually a weapons company in disguise
.

I'm a huge fan of Amor Towles. But this novella — or long story — despite a great concept, set-up, and sympathetic character, fell far short of satisfying for me.
