Books about food are my love language. A chapter about fried cheese curds and mouthwatering burgers? Absolute perfection. Add some romance and the plot thickens like hollandaise.

The Coincidence of Coconut Cake follows chef Lou, owner of Luella’s, and British food critic Al, a cynical hardass who despises Milwaukee. When Al first sees Lou, however, something in him softens like butter. But then....Al reviews her restaurant on a terrible day. And the review is scathing. Yet Al has no idea that the woman he is enamored with is the chef at the restaurant he just creamed.

Lou and Al begin a friendship that turns into something more, and Lou and Al are both finally happy as clams. Al learns how to love his new city, and Lou moves on from her heartbreak. Then Al finds out who Lou really is...will their relationship make it? Or will it get tossed in the bin with the rest of the food scraps?

This is the cutest book. Sometimes a cliche romance novel with lots of food talk is all you need to sweeten your day. Perfect when paired with the coconut cake you know you will inevitably bake using the recipe included in the book. And it’s delicious, y’all. 4 ⭐️

The quintessential romantic comedy. Not great attention to detail or "fluff," but a lot of love and work went into writing each character - and each dish. It makes me want to visit Milwaukee. Gertrude and Otto easily make up my favorite parts of the book, as well as the food descriptions. The perfect vacation read.

You get what you expect with this book. A romantic comedy of mistaken identity, some miscommunication, lots of cooking and eating, with a nice dash of drama and angst to round it out.

There are a few sex scenes, but they are fade to black and do not contain any erotic details. If you don't like your romances to be too smutty, this is a good one for you.

There's lots of food in this book, and the descriptions of all the dishes are so good that it makes you hungry when you read them. You also gain a good appreciation for local restaurants and businesses, if you don't already.

(FYI: The coconut cake that's in the title, on the cover and in the story itself is a real cake, and the recipe is at the end of this book!!

I really enjoyed this story. I went into it totally blind and instantly got the You Got Mail vibe. I may have eaten double my normal calorie intake while reading this because all the food descriptions made me so hungry!! Would love to read a story about Harley and Sue and even John!

Sweet. Relatively predictable, but the storytelling is plenty enough to have kept me wanting another bite. I can’t wait to read the next Amy Reichert book. The addition of THE coconut cake recipe was a lovely touch!

Loved this so much

Reads like a Hallmark movie. Cute allusions to recipes and the Wisconsin landmarks, but very predictable.

This book will make you crave two things: food and Milwaukee. I'm Canadian, but now I am struck by an insane urge to visit Milwaukee and try all of the food there. Do not read this book while hungry, it will be torture.

Lou has a small restaurant and is engaged to a jerk lawyer fiance. Of course, he's a cheating jerk, so Lou dumps his ass and throws herself into her food. Except on the day she discovered he was a cheating jerk, her restaurant was reviewed by a food critic. Unfortunately, that was a bad day for service at her restaurant and the review was scathing.

Thankfully, Lou meets a super awesome British guy, Al, who loves food. She takes him on a whirlwind tour of all the cool Milwaukee sights. Only, Al is actually the food critic who is causing her restaurant to fail.

This was cute. You can tell the author is super passionate about food and cooking. Seriously, this book will make you hungry. Also, I'm fairy certain Milwaukee paid her to promote them. I'm half ready to book a plane ticket there after reading this book.
