Personally victimized by this book on 04/21. I’m not saying K. Hannah is the best writer (I think she used the word NEED to describe lust like 5 times in a scene) but damn can she capture the human spirit like

Such a devastating, beautifully told story of Elsa Martinelli. What her new family had to go through was heartbreaking and definitely ripped my heart out more when she traveled to California. Hearing of the things real people in history had to go through in such a hard time was gut wrenching. I wanted to badly for her to be able to make it back home. I’m glad she found Jack during this time and how he helped her figure out who she is. Absolutely beautiful yet extremely heartbreaking.

Great historical fiction about a Texas farming family in the dust bowl/ Great Depression. It was a very entertaining way to learn about that culture and time period.

This book is very sad, so prepared yourself. I enjoyed the writing style and the dynamic characters. I also enjoyed the political elements and the honest viewpoint of what life was like in California. I'd recommend it!

This book could have been about 4hrs shorter. The worldbuilding at the beginning was not necessary for a novel solely about
union busting and the repercussions of migrant workers in the 1930s.
