This beautiful picture book focuses both on Aidan's experience growing up as a young transgender boy and his preparations for a new baby sibling. It does a lovely job of showing that girls can love science and dislike dresses, but that that is different than being a transgender boy. The book voices Aidan's frustrations at being mis-gendered and labels his parents actions treating him like a girl as a mistake. They try to avoid these same mistakes when preparing for Aidan's new sibling, being loving and accepting, choosing gender neutral clothing and wall colors, choosing a gender neutral name, and never stating the new baby's gender. Children will relate to this book if they are transgender, know someone who is, or have experienced preparing for a new sibling of any gender.
Simply wonderful. We read this twice for Reading Time with the Queens. This was wonderful for representation in so many ways, and I love that Aidan tries so hard to make things perfect for his new sibling. He learns a wonderful lesson in the end, and I think that not only our kids, but the parents learn something too.

This is a great picture book illustrating the story of a transgender boy who wants to make sure that his new sibling feels understood. I appreciate that the author mentions that it was a transitioning time for the parents as well.
I felt for Aidan during the parts where he and his parents where met with people who did not understand/were being nosy for no reason. I wanted to reach through the story and give him a huge hug and tell him that people suck sometimes.
The illustrations are absolutely amazing . The use of the bright colors and the smooth lines are very pleasing!
10/10 would recommend to the universe.

Okay. So this is very difficult book for me to write a review on. Why? Well......it tackles a topic that I have struggles with on a personal level. Transgender is a topic where I have many thoughts. That being said, in the public sector (and frankly in life) I encounter people from all walks of life. Some of them have gender issues and yes, some of those are kids.
What I appreciate is that there is a book out there for families who have gone through the transgender journey with their children. More calling their "boy" or "girl" a baby rather than labeling it. There are those who think that labeling is a good thing. Well, as a Christian homeschooler, I hate the stereotypes. I'm more than what people think of me. That is also a message of this book and why I rated it so high--because that is where I could find my personal connection.

Pretty good children's picture book. The art was fine, the text was good. And it is good to see trans kids as people doing people things - in this book becoming a brother. It has a simple but great author's note as well.
