I cannot express how much I would appreciated this book as a child! To know that not everyone feels like they got in with their gender and gendered room or toys or clothes.

This brought tears to my eyes in two specific scenes.
When Aiden started taking better care of his clothes, and when his mom assured him how lucky his baby sibling and family as a whole is to have him

(Forgot to add this one to GR, whoops)

A lovely and wonderful #ownvoices picture book about a little boy, assigned female gender at birth, who is about to become a Big Brother (very important) but worries about getting everything "right" for the new baby. With beautiful and fun illustrations by Kaylani Juanita.

Source: Rainbow List 2020
Age Range: 5-8
Evaluation of Quality: The story sensitively addresses transgender identity but centers on the dilemma of a new baby sibling.
Assessment of potential use: Parents may read this book to their child to prepare them for a new sibling or reassure them that their gender identity is valid.
Assessment of appeal to children: Children will love the detailed illustrations done in pen and pleasing shades of watercolor

Update Jan. 27 2020: Delighted to see such a deserving story awarded the Stonewall Book Award.

#OwnVoices for trans boy rep. This is somehow even better than I thought it would be?? The illustrations are gorgeous and the text is written with such care. I love the author’s note that speaks directly to kids.

Wow! I absolutely loved this book - both the illustrations and story are top notch. So many great discussions can stem from a read aloud like this and I'm so excited to use it in my classroom.
