Sometimes the littlest of things can be the most important. This offering is so beautiful, poignant and sweet. I can discern Lewis' influences within its pages, too.

The first book i can remember picking up and reading is The Fellowship of the Ring, and to this day The Lord of the Rings (As well as the rest of the Legendarium) stays close to my hearth as one of those perfectly round stories that deliver what they promise in a efficient and well develop way.
In a way Tolkien fueled my actual self with that love for history, philosophy and linguistics that drives me on a personal level.
So it is a correct guess that discovering a new work of his, even as short as this, was a delight.
But this is not only a short story from one of my favourite authors of all time; it is also a treaty on what creating art means. Is a text written while coping with the fact that your masterpiece will go unfinished to the annals of time. And how to find the joy of creation for the sake of creation even without an audience.
It kinda reminds me of Borges "El Milagro Secreto" at the end.
Its short, Its deeply moving for an aspiring writer; Its as much of a must read as the rest of the Legendarium.

A simple but inspiring tale of a painter, Niggle, painting many things but continually going back to one main theme and drawing other works into it over his life - the afterward was really good in putting the story into context of Tolkien's life and work.

Beautiful. A tiny book with a huge amount to say about creativity, what we value and how we partner in creation.
I really love the character of niggle and I am inspired by the scale of his ambition and vision.
Thanks Dad for the recommendation.
