While I'm an overall fan of the Discworld series, this was one of the few books I was not a fan of

This book is a daft piece of joy.  It is Sir Terry Pratchett’s love letter to Australia.  Yes,  he pokes gentle fun at some Aussie stereotypes, but a bigger focus is definitely placed on satirising the ludicrous behaviour of Brits abroad (through the characters of the wizards).

I read some reviews before reading the book and was surprised at the amount of criticism by Australians. I thought that the book must have been pretty offensive. After reading it, I would like to make a few comments as a non-native (British or Australian ). The book was one of the funniest discworld books. I couldn't help laughing out loud sometimes, not because it was making fun of Australians, but because it was quite witty. If it's any consolation, this is the Terry Pratchett way; making fun of everything and everyone. He uses this method in dealing with most cultures, including my own. He leans heavily on stereotypes, so many of which are untrue (in my culture and other cultures as well), but he DOES press sensitive buttons in what I think is an inoffensive way and more respectful way than many others. I totally respect that others see things differently.

It always takes me a long time to get into these, but I always end up laughing somewhere embarrassing while reading them. It's so clever and ridiculous.
