This book was so sweet, sometimes painful, and really wormed its way into my head. Ilistened to the audio in just a few days or so. Sav finding her queer community was so heartwarming, and I really appreciated how vivid, nostalgic, and harrowing the flashbacks to her high school days were.  It read a lot like a YA coming of age novel despite the heavy subject matter. Honestly, it reminded me of like an aged down, non-romance genre Ashley Herring Blake book.

Five stars because I cried.

I appreciate the writing is cringe and underdeveloped but I think it works well for the age of the characters. Like it’s realistic. At least in my experience this was how my friends and I spoke and acted at 19.

The way this is so personal to me, to my experience. It was unbelievably validating. I don’t like reading about assault but this was done so well. While it made me upset, it wasn’t graphic. Not sure I would’ve been able to get through reading this at 19 but cool to read it now and connect to it.

I adore this book! This got me out of my reading slump, I could not put it down. Great character development, enjoyable banter, exciting but not too intense plot line.  I really related to the feeling of becoming someone totally new when entering adulthood but still feeling like you have to revert back to your old self when you are home, with people who knew the past you. This book gave me a comfort I did not know I needed.

Omg the writing voice, omg the internal thoughts, omg the friendship, omg WES, omg the growth.

I loved this book so much? I was enraptured right from the start — the narrator of the audiobook, Jenna Kray = favorite voice ever??

The voice of the writing was perfect. I laughed and teared up more than a few times during this story. What I particularly connected with was the idea of friendship and how it’s a relationship not viewed as lasting as a romantic one like marriage, but the end of one can gut you just as much, if not more.

Candy’s one-liners killed me. Wes and Sav’s interactions? I was giggling like a school girl.

This books is beautiful and traumatic and raw.

A love letter to baby gays and survivors everywhere, this book is messy and tender and chaotic and unflinchingly honest. The narrative voice was a little juvenile, a little too tumblr-circa-2016 at times, but every character and every scene felt so alive. A really important book that would have saved me so much heartache and shame had I read it a few years ago.
