So, I finally finished this. I don't know how to rate this book because I did not actually try the exercises and I cannot tell how effective this book was without actually doing what it said. For this reason, I decided to do a fifteen-day challenge where I try writing every day. I hope to share the results.

An awesome guide to improving your word count.
Too often have I sat at my screen, planning on a three or four hour slog of writing. Sometimes it works, but more often than not it's just too imposing an idea to keep at the pace for that long.
Enter this book; the way Fox describes his approach to writing sprints got me completely on board to follow this approach with my writing. Multiple smaller sprints throughout the day vs one super long haul is just what the writing doctor ordered.
Thanks Chris!

Good stuff. Equal parts practical set of tips and inspirational speech, this is a nice introduction to how to get better and faster at writing.

I've read my fair share of books on writing, this one has some actually useful advice. Which is nice.

I’ve seen this book a million times on amazon. Why did I wait to read it?

Seriously? Why did I not read it sooner? I took his advice and instantly my writing flowed! And is 4x faster.

Given his aims, Chris Fox did a great job with this book. I read a lot of books of this type — whether I think I need them or not. I always learn something, or am reminded of something I’ve heard before. It’s always good to renew your commitment, try new strategies, and reinforce good habits. I immediately began incorporating timed writing sprints into my daily routine (okay, it’s only been a week so far, but still . . . it feels good!). I found that I could pound out a lot more words than I’d have expected if I set my mind to it and set a time limit. What I really liked about Fox’s book is that it’s pretty free of filler and fluff. Just the facts, ma’am, for the most part. A real help in refocusing and recommitting to whatever writing project you have going at the moment.

I became aware of Chris Fox and this book by way of Joanna Penn’s “The Creative Penn” podcast, which I recommend above all others for writers and creative entrepreneurs, especially if you might want to self-publish.

There were some good ideas, interesting strategies, and valuable insights; however, 5,000 words an hour doesn't seem practical or even desirable to me. I tried some of his strategies, but they weren't all for me. Hats off to Fox, I'm impressed that he can do this. The book is worth a read, and using his ideas, I did improve my word count, but aiming for 5,000 or even 4,000, I lost quality of writing and story flow. I did learn my limits. I'm the tortoise not the hare.
