As someone who’s a people pleaser, has PTSD and panic attacks, and has taken a break from dating, I related a lot to Katrina and I think she was written with grace and care. “She’d never been a shy person, even if life had made her wary” hit me hard. This book had a lot of great representation and the world Alisha Rai has built an accurately diverse world in her modern love series.

I really really loved most of this, but it started to lose me at the end. I wanted more out of their story. I almost wanted a third act breakup? Which is something I don’t usually want. Also while I love that both characters have their own personal story lines, I didn’t enjoy that they were going through very similar struggles, especially since it went into Kat’s experiences with PTSD much more than Jas’s. I also don’t love incarceration in books. However the very last scene is very well done and I thoroughly enjoyed how it (and the other spicy scenes) deviated from the standard romance genre spicy scenes.

Super sweet but still definitely check trigger warnings for this one!

Less about the romance and more about the mental/emotional, and familial obsticals both characters have to overcome/ process through in order to be in mental places to take on a romantic relationship.

I think this is almost TOO much story. That sounds a little insane but it's just so many storylines and history and background that I lost interest very fast and it became unrelatable. A former international model/billionaire/widow works through her trauma of a blackmailing father, child abuse, and a kidnapping to fall in love with her body guard. Like, come on, that is so absurd! Not to mention that the bodyguard comes with his own history/trauma. I get that it develops the characters but it becomes so overwhelming.

Overall, there are some cute parts and in the end was happy to see everything work out. There is one more book in the series and I'll give it a read but this is definitely not my favorite take on a modern romance series.

3.5 ⭐s. I really liked this! I loved Katrina in The Right Swipe, and I was excited to read her romance. I'm happy that I can add Alisha Rai to my small collection of body positive romance writers. Jas was such an adorable hero, and I loved his backstory and characterization. The whole secluded farmhouse with your bodyguard trope was 😍😍😍😍. Especially when Doodle arrived on the scene??? And Jas' family was precious. The peach jokes 😂😂😂. I also loved how realistic their sex scene was. 10/10 for first time in a long time realness.
