I’ve been a fan of Lauren Fleshman for years, even getting to meet her after the Eugene Marathon in 2019! The book is everything I had hoped for—her memoir but also advocacy for women’s needs in sports, especially running. So glad I listened to it on Audible because her reading is excellent.

Inspiring. Informative. Educational. Motivating. Moving. Vulnerable. I’m ready to go for a run.

So important for women’s sports. So incredible. Everyone needs to read this book and we all can do so much to improve sports for everyone.

I really enjoyed this book about the culture in the women's running world. It wasn't necessarily earth-shattering (the Nike revelations had come out a few years ago); I though Fleshman did a great job of telling the stories in the culture, unlike I had heard before. It also made me think of the challenges other competitive female athletes must face in other sports, and how crazy it is that we allow/encourage this in our culture. What really resonanted with me too is the idea that everything is based off the default men - training programs, gear, clohting, etc - rather than designing for women. The idea of embracing women's changing bodies in teens and into early 20's seems obvious, but is really overlooked. I doubt my cross-country coach (male or female) talked with me about how my changing body could affect my performance. We shouldn't be so afraid to talk about menstration.
