I think anyone coaching women’s sports could gain knowledge from this book. She shares her story but also connects research with the mistakes made in how she was coached and her thinking as a young runner. I was pretty fascinated the whole time.
Wow. A must read for all running coaches, young and old female runners and all runners in between. Lauren shares important information about a male centric running world through a well written literary memoir. I have always been a fan of Lauren Fleshman and I am so impressed at how she used her voice and talents to bring these issues to light. Bravo, Lauren!
A must read for any athlete, woman, runner, feminist, or one who cares for one. A memoir of a talented gritty AF runner who became pro when nike was refusing to put pregnancy within the contract. When nike expected her to pose naked. Lauren Fleshman narrates hee own memoir of her running successes and challenges .. which included disordered eating and body dysmorphia and amenorrhea. I love hee descriptions of actual races mixed in with her emotions of everything around her. Inspired by her.
This book was amazing. Not a huge memoir person but this one hit home hard - 100% recommend regardless of your career or athletic history, this is a book for women and it is soooo powerful. Definitely a great book to start off women’s history month.
A memoir of a pro runner; this book opened my eyes to the world of pro female athletes. It was also really well written and had a compelling narrative, well explained context, and researched to back it, along with telling her life story and self development.

Maybe because I don't know anything about the subject, but I found this book fascinating.

I thought this was an interesting and insightful look into the world of professional running especially told from a woman's point of view. This book is told in two styles: memoir and manifesto. I thought it was eye opening to see what Fleshman went through as a professional runner. It's a volatile lifestyle, especially for women. Her life was still filled with quite a bit of privilege and she acknowledges that at the end of the book. The manifesto portion backed up her experiences by giving facts about what women face in this male dominated world. Reading this during the 2024 Olympics, I'm happy to see women supporting other women during the Olympic games.
Rounded up from 4.5/5
Lauren Fleshman's honesty is inspiring, her story enjoyable to read.

A must read for female athletes, especially if you’ve ever been told your irregular cycle or lack of period is normal. This is the book that helped motivate me to start running again after taking a break.
