I loved this book! It was so beautifully written sith so many quotable moments that definitely will stick with me.
This is an extremely beautiful book, the result of what must have been a monumental work from Elif Shafak. It talks about the Ottoman Empire and about the city of Istanbul in a time where it attracted the best and sometimes the most hopeful minds.
It is a book about art&science Vs. fundamentalism, a book about the flaws of human nature and about the enduring quality of love. The kind of book that makes you think twice and underline sentences or even whole passages for you to remember afterwards, in times of need.
The universe of the 16th century it's so well built that it allows you to travel back in time and enjoy -or frown at -a city which had it all, good and bad. The main hero is relatable and you can't help but root for him even when he is not at his best behavior.
It has an extremely beautiful ending - and not one that you would expect in the first 400 pages.
This is the kind of book that can appeal to absolutely anyone and would make a wonderful gift. Elif Shafak proves, once again, that she is one of the best contemporary authors.

هذه القصة جرت جريان الماء في القلوب تماماً كما تمنت أليف، هذه القصة كُتبت فجأة ولكن عن قصد ووصلت القلوب لانها كُتبت بحب ورعاية كبيرة للاحداث والتفاصيل والاماكن والشخصيات ، كُتبت لانها قُدر لها ذلك ، وقُدر لنا ان نقرأها، هذه الرواية فيها ما يكفي كي تحفز القارئ ان يغير وجهة نظره بالعديد من الامور الحياتية ، تطرقت أليف فيها لكل نواحي الحياة من دين ، سياسية، حب ، حرية وجنس ، من دون ان تجعل القارئ يبذل مجهوداً وهو يقلب الصفحات محاولاً ان يكتشف الرواية ومضيفاً قدرا كبيرا من المعرفة والتجربة التي سيتخلصها عندما يصل الصفحة الاخيرة
أليف لا تنفك ان تبهرنا مع كل رواية فهي الوحيدة التي تكتب بهذه الطريقة وتكتب ما لا يتطرق اليه الكتاب الاخرون.
