I usually don’t log books that I read to Teddy (I could have a whole separate account for that), but this one was special. A whimsical comic-children’s book. Teddy’s first comic! You can understand my excitement about how totally into it he was. Comics are generally designed to be an individual reading experience, but this was a nice hybrid that is readable to a child (with some creativity along the way, as I made extra noises, and dragged my finger from panel to panel teaching him the flow of it). He wanted to read over and over again and was so captivated by the space scene that he wanted to watch WALL-E (a great series of events). I’ll be searching out more comics from this author and children’s comics in general.

I am a fan of Minh Lê’s. The images are as bright and bold as its ability to bring young readers imaginations to the forefront. Highly recommend this unassuming little gem of a book. My kids LOVED it and read it over and over (and I had to keep renewing it from the library lol).
Picked up this book as part or the Library's "March Book Madness" because it was competing against How to Solve a Problem by Ashima Shiraishi and I wanted to be able to vote in the bracket.
It's a struggle guys, they are both soooo good, I'm having a hard time choosing.
Imaginative. Dynamic. Overflowing with positive messages about perspective and positivity. Both are well written and well illustrated.
Readers may also enjoy these picture books that talk about grit and perseverance: The Magical Yet by Angela DiTerlizzi, Life by Rylant, I am the Storm by Jan Yolen, and What do you Do with a Problem by Kobe Yamada.
Read them all! Yay books! - Alexis S.

Le and Santat have done it again! If you haven’t seen their book Drawn Together, go check it out. I like the graphic novel style layout. This book embodies creativity and imagination, as well as the complexities of sibling relationships.

It is Iris’s special job to push the elevator button for her family every day. Iris loves her job. So when her younger brother beats her to the button one day, Iris is shocked, devastated, and furious. Then Iris finds an old elevator button in the garbage and she hangs it on her bedroom wall. Now Iris has an elevator button that only she can control. But when the elevator button mysteriously starts working, Iris finds herself going on new and exciting adventures. With echoes of Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are, Iris must decide if she is going to keep her exciting discovery to herself or find someone to share her adventures with. The unique format of this book brings both picture book and graphic novel together to create an amazing twist on sibling jealousy and imagination. Recommended K-2.
The protagonist likes pushing buttons, and so when she brings home a discarded elevator button and sticks it on her bedroom door, she discovers that it transports her to faraway lands. Along the way, she learns to be kinder to her younger sibling.
This is a comic-style picturebook with sparse words. It's really visually engaging. I would have liked to see more impetus for the protagonist caring more about her younger sibling.

Sweet book with Dan Santat’s illustrations so it’s gorgeous of course.
