Every teacher should buy this book. The possibilities for classroom use are endless! Plus, this is a partnership that should just continue making books together forever... okay, Minh & Dan? Please???

Iris lives in an apartment building with her mom, dad, and baby brother. Every day it is her job to push the elevator button until her little brother betrays her and takes over. Iris is furious. Due to an elevator repair, she spots the discarded elevator button in the trash. She rescues it and tapes it to her bedroom wall. When she pushes it, it dings and a door opens to fantastical places such as the jungle and outer space. She forgives her brother and lovingly reads a bedtime story ("Summit") to him. The next morning, she lets him ring the magical button and when the door opens they see the mountain from their story from the night before. Dan Santat is the illustrator of this gorgeous book. Large picture panels on every page advance the story beautifully. Definitely going on my Mock Caldecott list for 2021.

A young girl sis feeling a little jealous, a little neglected, now that her younger brother is taking so much attention from her.
Iris loves pressing elevator buttons, and when she gets a chance to create her own elevator in her closet, she gets quite the surprise, and gets a chance to explore new places. But everything actually becomes more fun when she can share her experiences through her portal with her younger brother.
This is sweet, fun, and full of adventure. It's also about love, and how sharing experiences can make them deeper and richer.
