Decidedly average. The romance was cute but nothing wow-worthy. I think I would have enjoyed this story a lot more without the fear centered breakup arc that all mm romance novels apparently have to have. I thought this was going in that direction when Aspen was more worried about Keene’s reputation than his own but a page later, he let his fears get the best of him. I think I’m just tired of that trope and want a lgbt romance where they aren’t afraid to be out. However, I can appreciate that their relationship was founded on a 20 year friendship that ultimately made their love stronger. I just didn’t think the breakup was necessary and if they had stayed together the whole time it would have been a refreshing change of pace for the genre.
