"Carry yourself with the confidence of a mediocre white man."

The above quote is possibly the best thing to come out of this book. Don't get me wrong, the absolute death grip that Olive and Adam have on me is incredible. While I love most of the predictable turn of events and the immense amount of tropes, there are some things that I wish could change or be outright omitted.

In the beginning when Olive is talking about her wealth, or rather lack there of, I found it juvenile, cringey, and very reminiscent of a 2014 fan-fiction. I am absolutely tired of authors making being poor/broke a personality trait. There's a big difference between being factually poor and being the "quirky girl who has no money". This is a personal pet peeve and others might not feel this strongly about it. To each their own. Another pet peeve that was extremely prominent in this book is the fact that
Olive had to take several moments to even begin to talk about her mom and whenever she did, she became teary-eyed. Like girl, come on. She died 10 years ago. Everyone handles grief differently and I understand that but 10 years? I feel like at that point you should be able to say "My mom died of cancer so that's why I want to find the cure to it" without having to excuse yourself for crying every single godforsaken time!

I do love the focus on women in STEM, especially BIPOC women. I wish we could've seen Olive support Anh in those endeavors. Speaking of Anh, while I love her to death, I found her extremely cheesy along with Malcolm. Take that as you will.

I did not like that it took 2 hours for Olive to get over her sexual assault but she can't talk about her mom crying. Is it to much to ask to see Olive struggle (for real) with the mental impact an assault causes?

Now, for the time everyone has been waiting for...drumroll please. The sex scene! The chapter and a half was not nearly enough . It was hot, but I am but a simple whore who just needed more. I feel like the epilogue could have been a place to add another sex scene as new real lovers.
Adam was absolutely mouthwatering when his hard exterior melted away and he was just as needy as Olive, maybe even more. Very nice, however, what is not nice is the line about Adam sucking her entire boob into his mouth... I had to hold the book away from me because the second hand embarrassment was real.

The saving grace was Adam holding Tom Benton by the throat, promising him that he would kill him because of what he did to Olive. My favorite moment by far.

Even though I have a few problems with this book, it still threw me over its shoulder and made me its bitch. I definitely think it's worth a read, but the only way I would re-read it is going back to my favorite parts. Still, I am happy for Ali Hazelwood turning an AU Reylo fan-fiction into a published book.

I loved this book! The characters were lovable, except Tom for obvious reasons. I like how Hazelwood is able to create characters that everyone loves, but also characters that they hate. My favourite characters are Malcolm and Holden. They are hilarious and super supportive of Olive and Adam. My least favourite character was Tom, and I am glad he got called out for how he treated Olive. I loved Dr Aslan saying "Carry yourself with the confidence of a mediocre white man.” Hilarious! A brilliant read.

After reading The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and subjecting myself to so many heavy emotions, I wanted something as light and as fluffy as cotton candy to ease the pain. The Love Hypothesis was a book I had seen floating around on BookTok (yes, I know) and it seemed like it would be just the cure for all my emotions from Addie LaRue

I went into this book not really expecting much. This is not because I doubt the craft of Ms. Hazelwood. It's more to do with the fact that I've never been too into romance novels. However, this one was actually a lot better than I was expecting! The story was compelling and the characters were well thought out and likable (except for one particular bastard). I love how self contained and tidy the story was and I especially loved the main character.

The story centers around Olive, a Ph. D candidate, who makes the rash decision to kiss one of Stanford's most disliked young professors, Adam Carlsen, in order to convince her best friend that she was dating someone. The thing is, she had no idea that she was kissing one of Stanford's most disliked young professors. In doing so, she is thrown head first into the world of post doctoral academia and politics, finding friends and foes as she stumbles forward. This book was the classic let's-fake-having-a-relationship-oh-wait-shit-I-actually-really-love-you cliche, which is something I really can't get enough of, if I'm honest. It's such a funny one and watching two people pine after each other is amazing. The way that Olive and Adam click is so sweet.

I also love how this book got into the sexism prevalent in the world of academia. Watching Olive go through what she goes through was difficult, but I am sure it is only the tip of the iceberg, especially when it comes to women who plunge into the world of STEM. We still have such a long way to go in terms of equality in that particular field. The fact that women put in the same effort as men and the same blood, sweat, and tears into their work only to be sexually harassed and accused of sleeping their way to the top is appalling.
I think I had a bad feeling about Tom the minute we met him. He was too polished and seemed to have no concept of boundaries. I think it was the scene where he pesters Olive about why she wants to study what she is studying, forcing her to open up about the death of her mother. It just rubbed me the wrong way. That should have been a piece of her story that she had full executive control over, but it was cut out of her instead.

I think the only reason I gave this four stars instead of five was because
Tom as an antagonist seemed very one dimensional. There was a lot of speculation about why he did what he did, but it was just pinned down to him having a shit personality. Was I happy when I heard what happened to him as a result of his shit actions? Of course. Do I wish that it had been built up a bit better? Yes.

Am I going to be reading the other books in this series? Probably.

A bit predictable and the ending was sort of rushed. But I was glued to my headphones for two days listening to this on audiobook, and I'd love to read it again.
