What an adventure! You really have to read this from the perspective of time it was written in, how wonderful it must have been to be able to travel across continents and explore the world. Passepartout is a legend.

Verne’s attempt at a globe spanning adventure fell a little flat for me. His other novels concern much grander scientific feats like trips to space and undersea journeys so a more realistic novel about trains and boats takes some of the magic out of Verne’s style. I will say that the novel has some comedic moments that land very well even today, especially between the protagonist, Phileas Fogg, and his dedicated, if inept, servant, Passepartout. If you like Jules Verne or like me have to read this book for research for a project, there is certainly some enjoyment to be found.

How had I not already read this!? It was so good! Fogg is such an interesting character, and poor Passepartout, so funny! My 6 year old was interested in it as well, asking for updates every time he saw me reading it. Seriously a really great classic. I plan to read more by Jules Verne.

My one issue with it...why the heck is there a hot air balloon on the cover!? They are mentioned once in the book, but no one even gets on one!
adventurous funny

This book has been made redundant with the invention of the Boeing 747.
