There were some interesting things about this story, but overall I just didn't care for it. I found it quite boring. I'm kind of interested in what happens next, but probably not enough to read the next book.

This is the first Jay Kristoff I have read and I enjoyed it. Some parts reminded me of Firefly and I guess as I read this book, that is the world that I imagined.
There are some great plotlines within this book with quite a few OMG! moments and What The? moments. They all keep you fully invested in the story and the world of Eve and her ragtag bunch of friends/family. I must admit I had some laugh out loud moments, especially with the names they all call each other. They become such a tight knit family that you can't imagine it being any other way...until...something happens.
Well written and descriptive, you can just see that Kristoff has an active imagination and has thought about what a world with androids, robots and Lifel1k3's would look like and how we would co-exist with one another. He has created a great female lead with an interesting group surrounding her.
Great option for fans of Divergent and also Becky Chambers (long, way to a small angry planet).

3.5 pushed up to 4 stars because I understand it's a YA book. Maybe the things that irritate me when reading this, just aren't as big of a deal to teens.
Enjoyable plot, but the jokes and slang are irritating and distracting rather than just fitting in and making sense. I was expecting a little more from a Kristoff book.

TW: This is a bit of a spoiler, so:
The voice is really authentic, but at times, it can get a bit too much and annoying. I feel it could have been toned down a bit. Like every time he wants to use the word 'trouble' he instead writes 'capital T' (gettit, trouble with a capital T?) and the first time he wrote it, it felt cute, but reading it another 20 times feels a bit much.
Otherwise, it was actually really good? Like I'm surprised at how much I liked it.

Lifel1k3 is like Tank Girl (the comic, not the movie) lite. It's not a bad thing, but it's like reading a story you've read before, adapted for a teenage audience. It borrows heavily in many of its character developments, from the character's looks and interests, to their mannerisms and actions.
As a teenager, I loved Tank Girl for those things. And I can appreciate Lifel1k3, because I want as many books, movies, and shows in these deserted wastelandy robot-filled quirky-strong-female-inhabited universes. Play Borderlands, watch Mad Max, read Tank Girl, read Lifel1k3. I hope you love them all.
Strong 3/Low 4 for me.

This did not end how I expected it to end! I will definitely read the next one! I wonder what the world would be like with androids. Would they really rebel as is always the case in science fiction?
