I loved this anthology, but of course it was my first anthology so unsure how it compares. However the attention to detail in this anthology was helpful. For example there is a glossary in the back and author bios in the back. I loved this because I resonated with some essays more than others, although I loved them all.
As a queer person, I think it is important that I read about queer experiences all over the world. This is a great place to start. I learned about some of the dangers of being an Arab queer, but there was a lot of focus on queer joy as well. This collection focuses so much on intersectionality of queerness, and as someone who values intersectionality I loved this aspect. This is why it got a perfect rating for me.

My top 3 favorite essays:
  1. My Intersectionality was my Biggest Bully by Amna Ali
  2. Pilgrimage to Love by Ahmed Umar
  3. Then Came Hope by Madian Al Jazerah

I have several new books on my TBR by authors from this anthology.

Amazing for its mere existence. A mix of stories about different people and experiences. A range of emotions. These are short pieces-each about 10-20 of my kindle pages. Hopefully more works will come and be able to point to this as one who paved the way.

This book was needed.

It was such an interesting, informative and engaging read! Not at all a book I would usually come across but so glad I picked it up. Beautiful nonfiction but reads like a work of fiction/narrative.

Only downside is that in some of the short stories it felt that certain paragraphs were used as a way to self promo other works. Which I didn’t necessarily appreciate as they took me away from the book.
