This collection got better and better the longer I kept reading. When the stories flipped and started reprising earlier ones, everything came together in the most satisfying ways. I loved the variety of form and perspective. Fantastic collection.

Finally finished this book of short stories. It has been on my kindle since early 2020 and I've picked up it up every so often to read a couple stories. Each story is focused on a different woman and gives you a fly-on-the-wall view of a snippet in her life. Often just a couple pages long, each story is rich and beautiful and leaves you wanting more.

I want sure how I would like so many stories packed into a handful of pages. However these stories were wonderful.

I was brought into so many lives and hooked within the first few paragraphs. This book makes me feel like I got some deal - "10 stories for the price of 1" sort of feeling. As soon as one finished, I was catapulted right into the next one. It really shows the writing capabilities of the author to be able to convey so much in a few pages.

Overall I felt cozy reading these stories- even the ones that were filled with tension, sadness, or grief. It felt comforting to read these stories of women that contained feelings that we have all felt.

I havent been one to read short stories in a book like this. If this is what most short story collections are like, I'm excited to read more.

This is a nice collection of short stories. I loved seeing characters crossover from other stories and it was nice to get closure. This was my first time reading this author and I will be checking out her previous novels.

Teenage Dream Time Machine , You Should Love The Right Things and California, Keep Us really stood out for me.

I loved this book. After finishing, I sat dazed on my couch feeling book hungover. I’ve been struggling a little lately with my attention span. It’s hard to read when I keep pulling myself out to check the news and twitter over and over. So - I decided to try a short story collection. And next thing I knew, I had successfully set my phone down and read for a couple hours.

The writing in these stories really blew me away - sometimes feeling more like poetry but in an accessible way. There are sentences I had to stop to reread to myself a few times because they were just that good.

And to quote the jacket copy description of the stories because it’s better than what I could write: “Leesa Cross-Smith’s sensuous stories — some long, some gone in a flash, some told over text and emails — drench readers in nostalgia for summer nights and sultry days. They recall the intense friendships of teenage girls and the innate bonds between mothers, the first heady rush of desire, and the pure exhilaration of womanhood, all while holding up the wild souls of women so they can catch the light.”

Thank you so much to Grand Central for the gifted book to read and review.

I got to the 10th story/essay and besides the first one, none of them wowed me. I have a long list of books on my tbr and I just didn’t want to keep wasting my time :/
