I connected with Sasha in several weird ways, even though we are very different people. A very odd book that I am not sure I enjoyed, but do feel like it will stick with me in odd moments for a long time.

I really didn’t like this. I saw a review that said “this would kill a straight person” but i think this killed a lil part of me, a queer person, too lmao.

i loved reading a lesbian novel that doesn’t try to pander to straight people. you can really get into things. like this novel really gets into butch/femme dynamics. it was like cultural anthropology at times, but with a great sense of humor. kinda lost me at the last third though.

What a weird book! I don't think I got into it until 100 pages in and then I was enthralled by the crazy antics of the characters. Was it good? Who cares? Was it insane? Yes!

I guess I'll note a few things to justify the three star rating, out of the six characters in this book, one of them (Lou) did not feel fleshed out and I kept forgetting who they were and any details about their life or their quirks. Honestly felt like Darcy could have been single on the trip and it would have been barely different. Maybe the tension would have been increased because of it.

Jesse also felt odd to me, I couldn't figure out his character and his motivations, I also couldn't remember the details of his life outside of the fact he was dating Sasha. Who is Jesse? Even after finishing the book yesterday I don't think I remember.

The other characters felt more solid at least, as in I could remember their motivations and jobs and personalities consistently. Sasha was so interesting and terrible and very fun to read from the perspective of. I have to laugh imagining the trip from Jules' perspective instead of hers - surely a completely different interpretations of events.

This book kept reminding me of Crime and Punishment because of how insane everyone was acting. I would say it was a lot more fun to read though! So there's that!

Dykette overflows with detail and is crammed with observation. It’s like a rich slice of cheesecake. Tart, dense, flavorful. The writing style is superb and extremely attentive.

I resonated with the characters despite my frustration with them. I related heavily to the intense self absorption of Sasha and her bitter, envious interior world. The sheer childlike desperation in Sasha that comes from feeling ignored, the subtle resentments and emotional manipulations in her and Jesse’s relationship. These relationships were written so deftly it was uncomfortable.

Dykette is a tense social comedy about jealousy and envy, attraction and attention overlapping. Very good. I can tell from the reviews, it wasn’t for everyone, but…if you get it, you get it.

This book gets so much hate and I loved hating it too. I'm so glad I'm in on the joke.
