Another great book!

Ms. Young' books never disappoint and always leave me with a "Wow!" reaction. This one was no different. Great read with an interesting journey with colorful characters and subplots that had me on the edge of my seat! Kudos to this great author!

My oh my...the suspense in this installment was awesome! I figured out Girlie's "issue" before I read about it.

I swear whenever I feel a slump coming on, I just open up a Vernetta Henderson book and dive right on in!!

Being the fourth in a series, this books was really twisted, in that it had a lot of different small things going on, but it all lead back to one huge case. It starts off with a murder and a rape case that resulted in a two million dollar payoff which lead to a crooked company, back stabbing family members, crooked cops, damaged careers and still got us to take a look at the Nation of Islam and what they are about, not what the media or outside sources says that they are. (I'm not an expert on the subject, just through research) And it talked about women rights when it comes to their advancements in the working world.

There were moments when I was just dying, Special is one of my favorite characters. And Idk how Vernetta would have solved this one without her.

I really liked the writing and honestly was confused as to who the killer was and was genuinely caught off guard when it their identity was uncovered. However, I was able to figure out other parts of the story.

Things I didn’t really care for were:

- The handling of the religious subplot (Islam vs Christianity)
- The fact that one of the characters had “daddy and mommy issues” that fueled her motives throughout the story
- That there was a subplot involving a rape case in which it is later revealed that the victim lied. I realize this books
was written before #metoo movements. But I still could not stand all the nasty remarks that were made to the woman (before the reveal). They were rooted in a lot of sexism and misogynoir and I didn’t think enough was done to challenge those viewpoints.
