Overall, the book was good. I love this series and I enjoy the books almost as much as the tv show Wire in the Blood. The whodunit cases were pretty good. I still love Tony and Carol together both working cases and the 5 minutes they have not working cases.

The Audible narrator kinda ruined it for me, but 3 stars nonetheless.

I really, really like Tony Hill books. Val McDermid writes such exciting stories with very good characters. This book was a nice edition to the series. I am always interested into seeing what will happen next.

First and foremost I will state that I truly enjoy the Hill/Jordan books. This was was exceptional. The characters are fascinating and the plot was intricate. I always look forwrd to seeing what Tony Hill and Carol Jordan are up to. With the reintroduction of one the most vivid killers the book was a true winner.

I've read more Val McD than anyone else according to Goodreads. And rightly so. She puts the thrill in thriller. I love Tony Hill and Carol Jordan. Their relationship personally and professionally is always fascinating. Love the idea, set up and characters here but felt like there was more back story and personal politics going on - especially toward the first third - than necessary. Felt sequel-ly. Wanted the plot to take off sooner, a few minor things in it I didnt' quite buy but went with b/c they're so well written and wasn't thrilled with how it resolved. Loved the last 2 pages and because of what happens in this book Hill and Jordan's relationship has yet another satisfying layer. Any Val McD is a good time though and I look forward to the next installment.

Formulaic but still beautifully accomplished. Val McDermid is like a machine - she rarely misses with her plots and her killers are all wonderfully perverse.
