i'm not the biggest greek mythology fan and so i know only the basics. this book was pretty easy to follow, although i had a hard time connecting to any of the characters. some chapters were really engaging while others were definitely not, and the result of that is an unstable stock market graph of a book. the premise is really interesting though, and the writing's lovely as well. definitely worth a shot if you're into mythology!

Enjoyed this so much and it's shown me, along with Madeline Miller's incredible works as well, how much I craved for these voices in classical mythology... more please!?!

This collection of stories interwoven with the muse was genius!!
I love seeing the side of the stories from the women's perspective, even though they all end in tragedy. I love the muse helping the poet write, and her attitude! We even get to see a little bit of the Gods.
My favorite was the letters that Penelope wrote to Odysseus. They began normal, and then I began to read them with bitterness and sarcasm. He really was so terrible to her. Couldn't come home!
Greek myths are my favorite, and I learned a few stories I did not know so much about before.

I enjoyed the book and specifically Penelope’s letters to the Odysseus.
A must read if you enjoy greek gods/ goddesses and stupid choices they make only because they are horny or jealous that does not impact them but mortals.

What a stunning work!
The way this book crafts the shape of the Trojan War, its causes and its effects, via a mosaic of vignettes of the lives, trials, and tragedies of the female characters is so masterful! On top of that, events aren’t presented chronologically, so we know this isn’t about about the Iliad specifically, but rather the way women are both subjected to untold suffering in mythology while also being pushed aside. The arc that Cassandra endures is especially devastating.
What an outstanding read. Would highly recommend!
