This was a solid 3.5 for me.

While I liked it enough to keep going with the series, and it is better some of the RH's I have read, it was still something missing...I don't know it was like the authors was trying hard for the plot to come across as mysterious when to me it was all really predictable.

I liked Nix well enough, however, for all that she went through you would think she would have been a little more smarter. I thought a lot of the book was obvious, but it was still interesting enough to keep me intrigued.

I didn't like the end at all, I wanted Nix to get a little more back bone now that she was connected with her Phoenix.

I am hoping book 2 is a better.

It’s extremely tropey and yet another reverse harem where the male characters take over the female’s life but she doesn’t mind because she comes from an abusive background. I’m tired of these books.

Cliffhanger!

The dreaded cliffhanger was the only thing I didn't like about this book! The characters were great, the romance was mixed with enough mystery and suspense to make it good. But I hate cliffhangers!

Super good start to an interesting series. I like shifter series and ones that include mythological shifters are fun to read. A kraken? A gargoyle? So cool. The main character, Nix, is a strong 18year old that seriously has had a tough life. Once she leaves to college, her world opens up and becomes fantastically interesting... It’s not a long read, but packs a lot of information and action into the final few chapters. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

I love nix. I love an mc that overcomes tragedy and becomes a better person. This was slow burn but you can see how the relationships between nix and her men will become more. I can't wait for the next book especially because of that ending.
