I actually really like this book. Which is weird for me. I'm not usually someone who reads these kinds of books. It had an interesting plot. At first you don't know what's going, I kind of wish she'd started it from the point she was kidnapped, that would have cut a lot of useless info you don't need. But right from the kidnapped point the story took off. The author never took the story too far, I think if she had I wouldn't have kept reading. I know that's saying something since this whole topic is technically taking it too far... but what I mean is she kept the bad guy human, by giving you his background. If the bad guy had been mentally unstable, and had only kidnapped her for his own nefarious purpose I think that would be were I'd stop reading. But the whole time he seems conflicted by what he did to her and has his own demons. Which kept the book from going over the edge of scary. Not to say there weren't a lot of scary things in the book.
The main character was a little less easy to understand. Her background story was a bit convoluted and I wasn't as emotionally involved, but that's just me.
Overall, I liked the story, and the writing was easy to read -- if a bit saucy, but that just added to the story plot and made the characters believable.
I'll probably read the second one... maybe... as long Caleb doesn't die.

This is so twisted and veryyy dark. This is for fan of haunting/hunting adeline I think its kind of even darker. Its a really small book but it has you hooked from the start! I like books where i dont know How far the author will go and this is it. Really recommend i love the f*cked up characters. Check de TW this is definetely not for everybody.

Listen....this was insane. This was wildly unhinged. If you've read Anne rices sleeping beauty retelling and enjoyed it, you'll like this. Please check all the damn trigger warnings. This is not the typical dark romance a lot of people read. This gets five stars because the plot had me hooked. It was ✨️insane✨️and I couldn't stop reading it. This review basically accounts for book one and book two. I was absolutely taken aback by every chapter. I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it to casual readers. Oh no, this is strictly for people I KNOW are open to it, which quite frankly is a short few even. I have no clue how the author might have felt after finishing these books, but I hope they took proper care of their own mental health. It was a good story, but always remember your mental health matters, whether be the author or the reader. ♡
WOW!..theres just so many feelings that come with this book!...It completely took over my world for the day...when I wasnt reading, I was thinking about it..It is a book that is all consuming and I havent read something in a while that had me this lost in thought:)...How the hell did this happen??!!...lol..I just got bitch slapped with Stockholm Syndrome! I kept wondering how the author was going to make the MC likeable...how will this all go?..I felt lost with her in that room...I was craving the light, and then I was dying for him to come back into that room!...It was a total clash of emotions...I was sick with the fact I was falling for him...and I loved it to the very end!!...my fave scene was when ..This book was one of my Top Fave Books Ever!...I couldnt put it down, and when I did I could not stop thinking about it!!...
Spoiler
she was escaping and had the gun on him..and then quotes Dirty Harry...the sheer hysteria in that scene!!...loved it!!!....and when the he just says calmly "Dont let me find you"...I freaked...lol
This book leaves me feeling depraved, disgusting, and my moral compass seems to be pointing in two directions. If I like this book then I must be some kind of monster. If I say I hated this book I would be lying. I don't agree with this book. Most of the content left an acidic burn in my stomach, a curling of my tongue. Yet I seemed unable to remove myself from the poison flowing through my body. I willingly continued to read it. It's brutal. It's repulsive and vile. It's disturbing. And this shit happens.
I am believer in redemption. I believe people can become greater than the lives they are born into. This must be the reason I wanted to like Caleb. I wanted to find something worth redeeming. I find myself rationalizing his behavior, he could have done so much worse. How is this type of thinking even acceptable? He's a kidnapper, a rapist, a beater, and a murderer. You cannot rationalize a mad mans behavior.
Olivia's spirit was beautiful. No matter the challenges she faced her spirit remained. She was the saving grace of this story. I had to keep reading. I needed to find her HEA. Okay forget an HEA, I needed to see her survival. I needed to know she wasn't broken.
This book is one hell of a read. It will haunt you. It won't leave your thoughts easily. The author did a brilliant job writing it. Even if it makes me question my humanity.

A bit like Fifty Shades of Grey but... way darker. Just like Livvie, Caleb invoked so many emotions in me. This book was an emotional roller coaster. I couldn't decided wether I despised Caleb or not. There were so many instances where this book brought tears to my eyes and the things Livvie endures... I'm not going to reveal spoilers but it was pretty twisted. Due to the what transpires in this book, I'm not sure if I would recommend. This book isn't for everyone but I enjoyed it. I intend to see what's in store for Livvie (aka Kitten) and Caleb in the sequel.

This book is not for the faint of heart. If Fifty Shades of Grey was too intense for your or if Christian Grey was too overbearing, then I suggest this isn't the book duet for you!!
This book is masterfully written. C.J. Roberts makes you absolutely love and hate Caleb with the impressive craftsmanship of her literary genius. Also, I swayed between utter dismay and anger towards Kitten but then would find myself rooting and finding strength in her character as well. This book is an emotional journey for sure!
When I first began reading romance novels, I normally read historical or regency romances where a majority of the plots centered upon "revenge: the hero kidnaps the daughter or niece of his enemy for revenge only to fall in love with the heroin instead". In this sense, I have no problem reading novels concerning kidnapping and overbearing males focused on revenge. However, I think this book seems more intense due to the reality of human trafficking actually occurring in the world today. The plot and background of the book, for me, seemed all to well based on the hardships of women and children striving to survive their own personal slave-ships. But, it is still possible (because I did) to get past this fact and become immersed into the story line.
Overall, the romance in this story is a dark emotional journey. It requires an open mind and forces you to understand. If physical brutality, kidnapping, slave-master domination and sex as a tool for conformity to rules is not up your ally, then I promise this book will offend you. It's surprising because I do not, in any sense, support or promote any of those things but I still really liked this book. It was haunting, dark and different. It was like nothing I have ever read; there is no norm, no routine and no expected turns of events. Its a emotional journey that leaves you wanting more, whether it be for them to be together or for Kitten to break free herself.
