Definitely unlike anything I have read. There were some genuinely spooky in parts of the book. I enjoyed the 90s references throughout.

I was originally drawn to this book primarily due to the cover (which, I mean, just look at it), but wow, was I blown away by how much I enjoyed this story.
This book hit a lot of notes for me and played them like a piano. It had everything I wanted out of it and then some. AVW's ability to maintain creepiness factor throughout is top notch and that right there should be lauded. I saw a nonzero amount of reviews that mentioned the number of 90s references being too much, but I really don't think it detracted at all from the story.
Overall, I'm absolutely hooked on Andrew Van Wey at this point and plan on telling everyone I know bout him.

Why are the chapters 2 pages long. I couldn’t get into the story with how each chapter was a different POV.
I read this one for the 2023 Books of Horror Indie Brawl, and it ended up being one of my surprise favorites of the contenders I read.
Head Like a Hole is strange and surreal, set primarily in the 90's, delivering a heavy dose of nostalgia. Featuring body horror, and the past coming back to haunt you, this one had shades of Tomie by Junji Ito, and I Know What You Did Last Summer. I look forward to checking out more of Andrew Van Wey's work. 4.5 stars, rounded up.
