Very interesting to listen to as an audiobook. Learned a lot and enjoyed it. I did listen to an abridged version though.

My review isn't indicative of the actual quality of the book; it just didn't appeal to me. Shame on me for not reading the description because I didn't realize how science-based this was going to be. There were definitely interesting anecdotes about scientists (Isaac Newton, what a guy), but outside of those I was bored.

This is the third time I've tried to read this book... and failed. I love Bryson's writing style, love the way he tells stories about things, but I just can't get through this. I think I'm going to give it another go next year, maybe taking it in pieces.

EDIT: June 2011 - I am reading this book again as my wedding date approaches. This is the least anxiety-inducing book EVER. While it does have a focus on the human stories behind scientific discoveries, it's mostly about the science. This is the least stressful book I've ever read, and conks me out at night really fast. Thanks Mr. Bryson!
informative

A short history of space, the galaxy, earth, atoms, cells, and life; and how humans came to discover it. A bit confusing at times, but overall, an incredible job making a huge range of complex topics accessible. A fun and fascinating read!
