Evan: "The albino pirate is going insane now."
Scott: "Well, of course. That's what albino pirates do."

Read in French.

An interesting premise but old book with sometimes racist/sexists stuff in it... :/
Otherwise the writing is really good, not sure if I really cared about the plot, I would probably need to read it a second time.

I found the middle section to be the most satisfying. Had some atmosphere and interesting ideas; I almost gave it four stars. Pairs well with 'Heart of Darkness.'

This book is set in a swampy, humid, hot future and reading it felt like wading through those swamps. I got halfway and had no desire to wade more. The language is, I suppose, compelling at times, but to what end? The plot is beside the point, as are the characters, and then all you have left is the setting and a mildly interesting idea about "organic memory" that can be awakened by changing environmental conditions. It's not enough to carry your through the whole book.
