This was too sweet for me. The MCs were too perfect, their dialogue was sappy, and even though they were masochist and sadist, it was too vanilla for me. Also, the beginning was just too unbelievable, and it felt a bit like insta-love.

I loved this story. The scenes got a bit old. I would have loved a bit more of the romantic relationship, but otherwise, it was exactly what I love in a BDSM romance.

I really liked this! The kink level was high - edging, orgasm denial, impact play, bondage, wax play, etc. - but there was a lot of sweetness and affection, too. Possibly unrealistically fast, which the characters themselves acknowledged, but it worked for them, and was a hot read.

While there was nothing awful about it, I found it a little bit tedious. There wasn’t any great tension or even passion for me. There was a lot of varied sex and kink, but it felt like too much.

Definitely a big no.

It is true that BDSM makes me so angry because why do ppl do this? But I read it to understand it & not be an ass.

But this book?
I just couldn't feel anything good in their relationship, the plot & the pace of things happening wasn't okay to me, & the dynamic of them seemed more like abuse to me rather than kink & BDSM (but I'm no expert, so.).

Kyle wasn't "stupid", he had insecurities, which cannot be erased thoroughly by spanking only.

& the whole story in a nutshell was:
They met, fucked, spanked, fucked, spanked, tortured, fucked, said I love you's, fucked some more & moved in.
Nothing special. Not to me.
Do I suggest it? Nope.

& that's it.

Good, not great. Well written just not much story, mostly just bdsm scene after bdsm scene with little in between. I found the blurb for this book to be seriously misleading, which was a bit of a let down since it was such an interesting setup for a story. (big spoilers)
Spoiler The serial killed aspect wasn't even a thing. It was mentioned at the start and was "fixed" in all of two paragraphs in the first chapter of the story: "He was killed. I feel guilty. I told my friend and he called me stupid. Now I'm over it all." You never see any angst, or grieving or any real repercussions or after effects of the past lover's murder. Kyle's part of the blurb never really happens either. The"outing" take place in the last, idk, 10% somewhere and isn't much of anything.
Since all you really get is sex, the characters felt very flat to me and I wasn't able to form much of a bond to either one. Though numerous, the sex/bdsm scenes were well written. I know nothing of the lifestyle, but they seemed informed and researched. They also showed a good variety of different types of scenes and different aspects of bdsm, which I enjoyed. I always love a book that ends with me feeling like I've learned something new.

Beautiful Boy by Grace R. Duncan is a BDSM club romance between Mal and Kyle, with insta-love, hurt/comfort, and oh-so-much CBT.

Overall, I really enjoyed the romance between these two. Not only do they suit each other well as Dominant and submissive, but they have a lot of interests and instaconnection that bodes well for them. Kyle and Mal are both nerdy, playing World of Warcraft together and enjoying the LOTR books. One of the ways their dynamic comes to be is Mal would read The Hobbit allowed while Kyle kneeled at his feet. It was so cute and I loved that they were both lovers, kinksters, and found out how to make their dynamic work best for them.

The sex scenes were hot, even though I myself was frustrated with how long some of the edging/denial periods were for Kyle, lmao.

The biggest issue is Kyle is closeted and it does come to a head. Personally, I do think that there was a rush of the ending to this conflict, the events that transpire are angsty, and then them coming back together is at the very end. In my opinion, I wish there was more time spent with the two of them being together after Kyle came out. Something I found interesting too is this is set before same-gender marriage was legalized federally, so they have a different way of showing life-long commitment.

I do recommend this, especially if you're into a kinky love story.
