The season is still meandering a bit but nothing out of the ordinary for a Buffy season. The plot with Kennedy's company was neat although Buffy's rejection seems a bit contrived. The two-parter with Billy the vampire slayer was a fun diversion, but it does have unfortunate implications: slayer are always girls, but he's gay so that's kinda like a girl? Or so it seems to be saying. Would love to heat from members of LGBT on whether the plot device was offensive; even if only mildly so.

Meh. Don't care about Kennedy, don't care about Wolfram and Hart, don't care about this Billy the Vampire Slayer.

the switch to the new slayer was a bit too abrupt for me.
Also, please just get the girls their magic back, I miss Miss Rosenberg....

I'm not a huge fan of Kennedy, but I love her in this first storyline. I love that she's monetized the Slayers in this new world, that she offers Buffy a job, and that ultimately it's her trust in Buffy that causes problems. (Oh, Kennedy, you are making some of the same mistakes all over again, but thankfully you've learned some.) I very much would have continued reading Buffy the Bodyguard, but the last panel of that storyline is so rewarding and gave me chills. Buffy the Vampire Slayer forever.
On one hand, I SUPER LOVED THE BILLY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER STORYLINE! What a great way to introduce new characters, and Billy and Devon are adorable together. Devon fits the early-Angel beats, but he's clearly a different character, and I think recreating that early Buffy/Angel dynamic is a smart move. On the other hand, I personally could have used a check-in on Buffy in between the issues, or a little more about how Buffy and Billy meet. I wanted to see more about his integration before I have to just accept Billy and Devon as part of Buffy's new team. (Which feels awkward to me, a fan who loves not just Buffy, but the whole Scooby Gang with whom she's hardly interacting with.)

Well, every other volume seems to be good right now. This was a fun romp. I am glad that Kennedy came back and she has started up a security firm for Slayers. She and Buffy work a case.
I really enjoyed the 2nd half of the volume. Billy the Vampire Slayer. Billy is a gay teen living in a small town where he is bullied. It turns out that gay Billy is the first ever male Slayer. I thought that was so very cool. He has a lot to learn still. The 2 issues about him were a lot of fun and there is a love interest in Devon who is going to be Billy's Watcher.
There weren't many of our regular characters in this one, only Buffy and Kennedy. Everyone else is off doing something else. The story was reasonable and I had a lot of fun reading this. I hope the next one will be good too. Maybe, this has turned into Star Trek, the original movies where only the even numbered ones were good. In the Buffy world, only the odd numbered volumes are good. I don't know if it really works that way, but, it's a thought at this moment.

I don't think I can list my favorite parts without some pretty serious spoilers, so let's just say Buffy learns some things about herself and her friends and we get a pretty great new character in the last issue. After a lackluster end to Season 8, I'm excited to see where Season 9 is going.

The Buffy storyline continues to meander a bit as she adjusts to the world without magic, and adjusts to not having to be The Slayer. That's all well and good, but the answer is to make her a paid bodyguard (which is strange) and then stop the arc rather abruptly to move onto what may or may not be a new character being added? I don't know.
I guess I'm just looking for things to happen, and it feels like the series is just treading water a bit. Hopefully things turn around a little?

The first storyline, the bodyguard one, is pretty great--just a solid Buffy episode with a bad guy and some learning about yourself. Really great. The second storyline--Billy the Slayer--was weird. It was a sweet story and could be leading somewhere, but there was a lot that didn't make sense that they're going to have to explain to convince me that someone wasn't just pulling stuff out of thin air.

Alright, that's it, I surrender, I've had enough.
Now they're security guard-type people? Fighting THE DEMON INTERNET?!?! All of the dialogue is painfully contrived and I am so sick of watching characters I once loved unspool into their lowest common denominator. I just... I can't anymore, my heart can't take it. I'm done.
