Definitely recommend this as an audiobook!
Lucian and Emma were both at low places in their lives, especially with their careers. But then they found each other and made their lives sweet.
Also I recommend reading Dear Enemy first they are both stand-alones but intertwine a little and might give away the ending.

Emma and Lucian, ah! Just cute! I am a sucker for a hockey romance, even if Lucian is no longer playing. Also, a secret baker/cook, sign me up! A lot of time you read books that the men are the bakers, I just feel like a lot of time it's the women that are baking in stories. I think Kristen Callihan did a great job with this book! It was easy to follow and you really felt for the characters. Both Emma and Lucian were going through a difficult time and the way they come together for each other was just perfect. I really enjoyed this one! Even if that third act made me angry at Lucian, it was still an excellent read.

I found myself just not that interested with the characters or the storyline. Just not for me… enjoyed the links between Dear Enemy & this one though.

Disclaimer: Do not read this book if you do not have immediate access to sweets and pastries.

Lucian Osmond is officially in the book boyfriend list. The way this man loves our heroine, Emma, was just... i can't even.

The story was beautifully written and I was swooning every other chapter.

The way Emma and Lucian opened up to each other and fell in love with each other was just breathtaking. It was also so funny! This book has everything you could want in a love story, including the best tropes!

Now onto the spoilery section of the review!
SpoilerOne of my favourite moments in the book was when Emma and Lucian were arguing and he lifts his hand and she flinches. The way he apologizes and let's her know that she'll always be safe with him???? I died right there. This man now forever owns my heart.

The way Lucian acted every time he saw Emma smile or laugh? this man simps hard and I'm here for it

Honestly this whole spoiler section might as well be about how much I love Lucian Osmond.

GO READ THIS BOOK

Hockey romances are officially my absolute favorite because hockey boys are truly just the sweetest.

This book was SO cute and had me hooked from the first line!! I really loved this writing style and would love to read more by Kristen Callihan. I loved Emma and Lucian sooo much, they’re probably my new favorite comfort characters!! Also the side characters in this book were written SO well and I loved literally ALL of them, especially Sal.

I can’t recommend this book enough. It’s a quick, yet amazing, read!!

I was loving the book for the most part but goodness, I hated the ending. Emma should've left Luc. Make him work for it. I enjoyed Emma's character and her realness and practicality for like 90% of the book but then she allowed Lucien to stomp all over her feelings. Lucien chose to go to Washington instead of caring for his health and the concerns of those who love him. Which is a good enough third act conflict. However, I would've liked for Emma to have ended things with him for being selfish and so he'd had to grovel and work to win her back. He was selfish and dumb but not irredeemable - but I couldn't stand to read about Emma becoming a mess over him and the texts she sent him after he'd left her. If she had left him, I would've enjoyed the book SOO much more.

Ugh. I'm so mad - when the end of a book doesn't work for me it makes me retroactively dislike the whole story. I listened to the first 90% of the audiobook at 1.6x speed and the rest at 2.6x speed to just make it end

4.5/5

This was really cute. I really loved reading this and other books by Callihan - her books are solid and just feel right. Exactly what I was needing.

This makes my 100th book this year, ending around 2pm on NYE - hitting my goal with just hours to go!

I opted to end 2022 with this because I knew I enjoyed Kristen Callihan’s writing and Make It Sweet was no exception. The story of two people, lost, a bit broken, who find their way through each other.

It was a really beautiful story and I loved how the MCs stood by each other without trying to fix each other.

Lovely end to the year in books.
