i really enjoyed this, it pulled me in right from the start!! the instant attraction thing / love at first sight isn’t for everyone but i liked how it was done here. and the nicknames they had for eachother was super adorable
Lucian and Emma. He’s a former NHL Center who had to retire due to concussion syndrome. She’s an actress on a hit TV show who has just gotten the axe. They’re both battered. His fiancée leaves him after he quits hockey. She catches her boyfriend sleeping with a waitress. Her grandmother introduces her to Amalie, Luc's grandmother, who offers a stay at Rosemont, an estate in California, where she can rest and recover. And wouldn't you know, guess who is staying in the pool house?
In the beginning, both are stuck in limbo. Neither wants to make a move. He’s too damaged. She’s lost her confidence. He's a whiz in the kitchen, but all he wants to do is go back to hockey. She feels like she's being typecast as the Princess and no one will want her.
Sal. Honeypie and Honeybee. Patisserie. Pools and Edith Piaf.
He pushes her away because he figures that she deserves better. She digs into his darkness and brings in her light. You know that there has to be a separation, because these two can't just stumble into a HEA. It's a slow burn, but the trip from Angst Town to the epilogue is also weirdly too fast.
It's good but it might have been great.

I've enjoyed so many of Kristen Callihan's books, but it's also been ages since I picked one up. No clue why. This is a total case of "bookstagram made me read it" and I'm glad I did. I forgot how much I loved Kristen's writing. An ex-hockey player who BAKES paired up with an actress? Totally up my alley. This one was funny, sexy (love that steam!) and sweet. It slowed a little too much towards the end, but was still a solid 4 star read.

I really liked Emma and Lucian! I thought their story was cute and charismatic. The slow burn was wonderful and I truly enjoyed the HEA.
A beautiful love story about two broken people finding solace within each other. Finding identity within themselves, not their careers. An easy and entertaining read, with likable and personable characters.
I really enjoyed this heartfelt, and deliciously sweet and steamy romance. Emma and Lucian are both lost and at a crossroads. Emma is an actress who's character was killed off suddenly, and when she goes home her boyfriend is in bed with someone else. She goes a secluded resort to figure out where she goes from here. Lucian was a successful hockey player who was forced to retire too soon before another head injury takes his life. He's also a talented chef who cooks and helps his grandmother with the resort, but is feeling lost with what life has dealt him. Emma and Lucian are two broken souls who connect instantly. They help each other heal and learn that there is more to themselves than they thought. I loved both Emma and Lucian and the push/pull of emotion between them. There were no easy answers, just two people helping each other maneuver through their bumpy journey and learning to love themselves and each other.
Ava Erickson, and Jacob Morgan's narration was fantastic. They really captured every nuance of these characters. Their depth of emotion, and delivery created a realism that was completely captivating, I was totally mesmerized by their performance.
