Read this book!
Kristen Callihan has created the perfect balance of sweet and spicy romance. This book is so wonderfully romantic but not over the top. Lucian is a former hockey player who has come to his grandmother's home of Rosemont to recover and hide away a bit. Emma is an actress who has been written off a famous show and needs a bit of a respite. The two bounce off one another in interesting ways at first, as Lucian secretly woos her with his delicious patisseries. The description of food in this book is swoon-worthy but then so is the slow burn romance between Lucian and Emma. It's absolutely gorgeous. This has become one of my favourites of 2021!

this was just kinda.... boring
the only parts i really found interesting were the portions about their careers and that's never a good sign
and don't even get me started on the nicknames
i will forever be traumatized by the word "honeybox"

Warning: this book will make you hungry in the middle of the night. I need to find me a Lucian who will make and feed me yummy sweet treats!
I was sucked into this book right from the start. This book made me laugh out loud at how the couple teases and flirts with each other. And the nicknames: Snoopy, honey pie, honey bee, and Brick! Adorable and deserves all the giggles.
I think Emma is my new favorite heroine now. A lot of female heroines are written in a way that when there is a crisis, they freak out and run away instead of confronting the problem and doing that much-needed communication. Emma stood her ground whenever there was an issue and got her point across, got Lucian to talk to her, while also respecting boundaries- which was soooo satisfying to me. Props, Emma. I also adore her teasing and how direct and bold she can be. Her sense of humor was top-notch. She's also super patient with Lucian and had such a big heart. Adore her!
Lucian was rough and tough but also a soft boi. I adored how soft he was for Emma, crafting all these sweet treats for her and practically taking it personally that she didn't like raisins and mangoes so he kept that in mind to make things she loves. He truly loved the art of pastry making too with how he imagined and described the tastes of the sweets (usually in conjunction to thinking about Emma). As much as Emma likes to piss off Lucian, I enjoyed it too.
He was battling a lot with himself during the course of the book with whether or not to pursue Emma despite his strong feelings, with his future and what makes his identity (whether it had to do with hockey) so it made him hesitant and even more lost going down this road because he's never actually loved someone or been in a deep relationship like this before where he wants to try committing to something that wasn't hockey.

Emma, a well-known actress, needs a break from the spotlight and from her cheating ex-boyfriend. Unfortunately, Emma has a major career setback. With that being said, Emma decides to get away and travels to Rosemont, where she will try to pick up the pieces of her life.
Lucien Osmond, the former hockey player, is depressed. He can no longer play the sport he loves because of a serious head injury. Instead, he stays with his grandmother, the owner of Rosemont, and cooks/bakes/fixes things for her. The pair initially meet when Lucian picks Emma up from the airport. After mistaking him for a fan, Emma soon becomes intrigued by the grumpy secretive man sitting beside her.
Omg, I absolutely loved everything about this book from their secret rendezvous to Lucien's attention to the small details.

"Thing is, the more I get to know you, the more beautiful you are to me."
This read was definitely emotional.
Both our characters, Emma and Lucian each are going through their own issues in their personal life.
They are experiencing loss, failure, career confusion and know what they want.
From the beginning, we could already feel the tension and awkwardness that is trying to get out from the environment.
That pool scene though, fuuuh HOT.
I love that they are teasing each other even though they know somebody got to address the elephant in the room.
Mamie is such a matchmaker, what would we do without her.
Am I the only one who say Honeybee in Lady Gaga's voice?
I think the chemistry of their build-up romance was what pull my heart.
"I'm not lost anymore, Em. You found me, and I'm never letting go."

Emma always dreamt of being an actress and landing a part as a Dark Princess Anya was a dream come true. Until she attended a read-through for the season finale to find that she was being axed. Heading back to her apartment early she finds her NFL football star boyfriend in bed with the young waitress from last night's dinner. Needing to get away from things she turns to her grandmother who arranges for her to stay with a friend on an estate outside of LA.
Lucian is still adjusting to life away from the NHL after one too many concussions. Needing to recuperate he is helping his grandmother update her estate whilst he thinks about what to do next with his life. His grandmother being someone you can't say no to, he ends up picking Emma up from the airport, however, they have a somewhat fraught first meeting.
Both hiding from the world they seem to push each other's buttons and not in a good way. However, they finally manage to form a friendship with Emma discovering Lucian's hidden baking talent. Something that comes to the rescue at a wedding they attend together. Where they explore their growing attraction to each other. But the road ahead of them isn't plain sailing, can they make this work beyond their time in hiding?

Featuring ~ dual 1st person POV, grump/sunshine, actress, hockey player, steamage
Gah, make it sweet indeed! Emma and Lucian are super cute together! Lucian is a former hockey player and just a big ole teddy bear at heart. I felt myself just smiling and feeling all warm and gooey inside while reading for most of the book. Of course it’s a typical romance of meeting, wanting, shouldn’t want so push away, but eventually realizing that was a dumb move and cue happily ever after.
