Literally just what I needed right now. Well-written, easy read, fun and utterly enjoyable. I loved the banter between the main characters and how real and genuine their troubles are. This book doesn't try to be anything more than it actually is an I liked that. It's not trying too hard to be more than what the plot is but there's depth into it nonetheless. It's also the first novel with a grumpy-sunshine trope I've read and it was enjoyable. There were angsty moments that tugs at the heart but nothing overly too heavy albeit still readable and could strike close to home. Just as the dedication says this book is, "For the ones who find themselves in need of a little extra comfort and care." Oh, well, off to hunt more Kristen Callihan novels, then. Her backlist looks promising and I already have my eye out for a certain polarizing reviewed story, "Dear Enemy".

this was perfect. the most gorgeous grumpy x sunshine romance, with characters full of depth, chemistry, and so much heart. exactly what I needed.

I am very pleasantly surprised. I've read Dear Enemy a few months back and also enjoyed that story so I was pretty excited to read this friends to lovers romance.

Make it sweet is such a fitting name for this book. First of all it made me crave pasteries and second of all the story itself was super cute and heartfelt.

I had a good feeling about it from the start. Emma was such a genuinely nice woman and I loved how conciderate she was. I loved that she was caring and so funny.
Emma was cut from a show similar to GOT and seeked comfort and a place to relax. She was so lovely and everything she did was so mature and level-headed.

Lucian was a former hockey player with head trauma and feelings that haunted him. He was so passionate about his sport and I felt sympathetic because I could feel his love for it. Kristen wrote that part of him so well.
Lucian was just like Emma, very funny and likable but a lot more stubborn. He was also an amazing baker and I couldn't get enough of scenes where his creations were described. My mouth was watering constantly.
I got frustrated with him a lot especially at the end. He was so blinded by his pontential return to hockey he didn't see nor did he want to see how much of a bad idea it was and he didn't want to see his loved ones worrying about him.

The whole book was super easy and wonderful. I loved the California setting, I was able to picture everything so vividly and this book had lovely scenes that made my heart full but that were also very funny.
The ending was sad for a second but I loved how everything turned out. Emma and Lucian had a great connection and amazing banter. They fit so well together and I also adored the side characters.
Overall, this book put a smile on my face and I'm looking forward to reading more stories from Kristen.

tbh Emma as an actress was a big

This is the thing with Kristen Callihan, sometimes her book works for me sometimes it was just a total “meh” and this one sadly is the later. I tried, I really do. But there are too many things that drag the stars lower and lower.

At only 18% of the book, I already feeling bored. The background story of both main characters seems forced and hasty.

The way Lucien bakes sweets, at first, I ogled them at Google and craving it, but with THAT many, like 20/30 detailed sweets, from this 300pages of books? Well, too much is too much. But at least I know where the title came from.

Major down point is the hero itself, Lucien. He is so whiny, hates himself, and act like a child. He pushes and pushes Emma, then one day realized his life is miserable without Emma, and wanted to be with her, so he begs her to come back and she does. Emma is seriously the most patient character ever. I would have already kick his ass!

So yeah, 2 stars. Would not recommend this to anyone, but I would recommend other books by KC tho, like Idol and The Hook Up Plan.

4.5⭐️ Make it Sweet is a contemporary romance that won my heart over !!! It’s a story about two people, both working through some tough life changes, who’s paths cross when recovering at a private estate in California. Emma is an actress who is unexpectedly getting booted off her current hit TV show while Lucian is a NHL player who is forced to retire from the game he loves due to a head injury. Despite their previous failed relationships, losses with their careers, and some emotional baggage, Lucian and Emma start to lean on each other and form an incredible connection. I was instantly invested in their relationship and loved how the two supported and grew with each other.

While not marketed as a series, the two main characters from Dear Enemy show up in this book a bunch of times, so I would 100% read that book first. Also, there is a lot of overlap between the two books (e.g., use of nicknames, prior family abuse, love for food, older motherly figure). Not that it was a bad thing but I’d probably wait to read them both back to back like I did.

Read if you like:
-Forced proximity
-Instant attraction
-Witty laugh-out loud banter
-Hero who is “finding himself”
-Books that discuss post-concussion syndrome in athletes
-Baking and French pastries
-Cute nicknames
