enjoyed the dynamic between the characters, it never really felt like one was more awful than the other, even if luc's problems were more at the forefront

Reread on audio (28 Feb 2023)
Oof, this book is basically a study in wooing and flirting and wanting as Emma and Lucian help heal each other and themselves. You’d think it wouldn’t be my kinda book but KC’s writing is such that my stomach legit swoops at each heated glance and flirty encounter. As simple and perfect as the story seems, it still feels real and almost achievable in its simplicity, though we all know it’s not that easy. It is indeed, chef’s kiss. Speaking of chefs, Lucian’s love affair with pastry is as evocative as ever and I alternated between drooling and hopelessly turned on. And Jacob Morgan’s hot cream voice on the audio, with some sinfully sexy French sprinkled in, elevates it to another level. The female narrator is fine, but she makes a few mistakes (calling Macon Mason?) and randomly gives Sal a mild French accent in a scene. Other than that, I didn’t expect this one to hit equally hard on a reread but I was very wrong. This remains one of the author’s most underrated books and that’s a crime.
***
Sighhh. Swoon. Heart. Melt. Puddle. Feels.

Update: I could not wait any longer to drop my review

3.5 stars. It's hard to suspend disbelief about a hockey star making fine pastry just for his grandma? I guess I believed it in Check, Please! So... Idk.
The amount of distress this man felt when he found out that she didn't like raisins was unreal and also my favorite part.
I wanted to love this so much! But it the end, it was just ok. It was kind of boring, nothing much happening, a lot of inner monologue, not a lot of dialogue, and a MMC that is not only a grump, he's an ass. And I felt like Emma was a wimp to keep going back to him after being pushed away so many times...
