This is such a sweet book (literally)! It’s just so adorable and the desserts mentioned made me so hungry I just want to get up in the middle of the night to eat. Now that I think of it, I’m craving for a good dessert! I recommend this book to those who are looking for a sweet, fast, and fluffy read! Longer review to come!
this book was cute and an easy read! the way lucian cooked food for emma was srsly so hot—if your love language is gift giving i think you’ll enjoying this book. but the third act break up was kinda annoying? like they broke up over such a stupid reason. and by the time they resolved everything, I was lwk uninterested in everything that happened after.
i loved the middle portion of the book but thought the last parts of the book felt dragged out.

It was probably 4 stars for the first half and 2 stars for the second half. I listened to the audiobook and was eager to keep listening until about halfway when I realized I was dragging my feet listening to the rest.
Lucian and Emma had extraordinarily verbose inner monologues. But then somehow we never saw anything happen?
Randomly towards the end we find out Emma bought a house. Why didn't we see that? We already met the real estate agent, it was so odd to just throw in. And in the same scene Lucian told us about the meeting he had with his old coach. Somehow (with dual narration/perspectives too!) we missed all of that?!
I also disliked the extremely brief mention of abuse. It was not fleshed out and did not add to the story.

4.5✨- Such great chemistry & witty banter between Lucian and Emma. Nice twist on the grumpy/broody male character. Loved this story.

This book was “what you see is what you get” but with a fun and playful tone that was very effective for it. Classic sports romance but with a bit of a sweet twist. Let’s start with what I loved.
1. The side characters
Often I find that romance books suffer from a lack of depth in not only their main characters but also their side characters, this book was a pleasant surprise to me in how fleshed out the people around Emma and Luc were. I especially loved the addition of mamie and brommy on luc’s side as his character developed; they helped to make him more than your classic hockey meathead protagonist. (I do wish that they had given Emma some more consistent friends)
2. Vacation setting
Nothing makes a romance work better than putting the characters in a setting where they are in forced proximity. The relationship between them developed fast, but because rosemont gave them a reason to be around eachother so much it doesn’t feel forced.
3. The food plot device thingy
The way that the author used the food as a love language to show how the relationship develops and changes was a stroke of genius. I love love LOVE seeing romance authors develop personal ways for characters to show their love instead of relying on tropes.
4. Tropes
There were many tropes in this book but the author came off as self aware, and all of the tropes had plot reasons that were WELL DEVELOPED. This is how tropes should ALWAYS be done.
So why isn’t it 5 stars??
A few reasons. *minor spoilers*
1. Random abuse storyline
I won’t say much about this, but if you are going to give a character trauma, PLEASE be prepared to explore the depths and complexity of it. Abuse is not a trope nor is it an opportunity for a cutsy “she flinched oh no” moment that does not get revisited
2. Anton
Why was he needed? And why did they introduce him as if he was going to do something bad. If you show a gun… (finish my sentence)
3. Food kink??
The epilogue was uhhh
Not my thing
If ur into that fair enough but um
overall I really loved this book and enjoyed watching the author dig into and explore the characters she created.
TLDR
Sports romance with a twist. This book is pretty safe to recommend to any romance reader but maybe stay away if you are grossed out by food in…uhhh…yeah
