It was ok

I believe this is the first book by Kristen Callihan that I have not thoroughly enjoyed. I found it a little boring. It did not seem to be her usual writing style. With her other books, I was glued to them. Totally invested. This one was not that. I was able to put it down and go about my day. I loved Emma. She was beautiful on the inside and on the outside. She was funny, snarky and just an overall likable character. Lucien seemed to be a big ole wimp. It was poor pitiful me. And the way he kept being hot and cold to Emma, not in a good way, just got on my nerves. I loved both their histories but where Emma pulled up her big girl panties, Lucien kept laying in his bed sucking his thumb. It was irritating. Not the best male lead. I did love Brommy, Sal and Amalie.

4.5 ⭐️ I really enjoyed this!!! Retired hockey player (due to injury) and a famous actress who don’t know each other have grandmothers who are friends - and end up together at his grandmothers big fancy house after she got cut from the show she’d worked on for years to hide out and contemplate her career. I love the tension and banter between them, he’s a big broody grump and she’s sunshine. There’s lots of caretaking and protecting each other, he shows his admiration by baking for her 🫠 I loved all the nicknames they gave each other - especially the honey bee & honey pie part🥹  super swoony and sweet but with spice too!

Trigger warning for talk of physical child abuse and parental death as a teen.

Kristen Callihan quickly became a must read for me after her VIP series, (SCOTTY FOR LIFE), so I was super excited to see this book up on NetGalley for request. This was a slow burn romance that made me super hungry. Emma meets Lucien when she comes to his grandmother's resort (I mean it's her residence but it's a resort. It has a name and guest houses) after getting the ax (literally) from her super popular TV show. Lucien is staying with his grandmother after an injury while playing hockey.

I am a bit bummed to say while I loved Emma and Lucien was fine, I really fell in love with the side characters like Sal, Lucien's grandmother and his female cousin. I don't think this is a series unfortunately so I will just have to imagine their stories.

While the food and location were great, overall, I just wasn't as in to this story as other books by this author.

**Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy**

I was putting off reading this as I wasn't sure how I would like it: I had read the book that was plagiarized off Make It Sweet and hated that one (it hurts that I spent money on an unoriginal book).
Anyhoo, this was so much better than what I was bracing myself for. Should not have doubted Callihan.
Many feelings have been had over the reading of Make It Sweet: grief, anger, hunger for those pâtisseries, joy. All in all, a very pleasant read.

Make It Sweet is a sweet and spicy romance featuring a cameo from the cast of Dear Enemy. This time, we have actress Emma and ex-NHL player Lucian. Both are taking time out at his grandmother's estate to recover from personal setbacks. What they don't expect is to fall in love.

Callihan knows how to write instant and intense chemistry and Emma and Lucian are no exception. I love the connection and support they shared. This was also less of a slow burn and a bit steamier than Dear Enemy, which I'm definitely not complaining about!

While I love a grumpy/sunshine scenario, Callihan takes it one step further with Lucian - a grumpy hero who also loves to bake and show his love through his cooking. Be warned, the food talk is guaranteed to make you hungry!

So, if you're searching for a tender but steamy romance you can listen to or read via Kindle Unlimited (I personally listened to the audio), I definitely recommend Make It Sweet.

I absolutely loved this book!! 5 million stars! I really loved that despite this book having insta-lust, there was a solid development in the characters feelings for each other! They had wonderful banter and tension throughout which I loved! The characters themselves also had such great development! Even though they were both famous, their struggles were relatable. The storyline flowed so great and I was never once bored! I also loved how their relationship was never perfect and they had struggles multiple times throughout the book which I thought was more realistic than the typical “boy and girl get together and then reunite one final time at the end of the book” sort of thing. Emma and Lucian fully have my heart!!

3.5 stars! This was cute! Really enjoy the tropes in this book (friends to lovers, recluse hero, celebrity romance) but it was just an okay read. Definitely think it’s a good pick me up if you need a palette cleanser!

not my cup of tea.
