After weeks of struggling to finish a full length novel this has cured me from my slump. I mean I don’t think there were going to be any doubts about it since I haven’t read a book from Kristen Callihan I haven’t loved, but still very happy with the outcome.
The pace here, like all of her books, was pretty fast right from the start which is something I really enjoy about KC’s style. The chemistry and the banter between Lucian and Emma was off the charts right from the start and the sexual tension between them just made it ten times better. They both have a case of insta-lust that they carry with them for a while and it culminates in the most perfect way in my opinion.
The grump-sunshine dynamic and the “I hate everyone, but you” vibe Lucian had with Emma won me over pretty quickly. I was also a goner for how both of them were very gentle with each other. A plus was also the fact that this gruff big hockey player baked delicate and delicious french desserts and that he crafted special breakfast baskets just for Emma.
This book is available on Kindle Unlimited so if you are looking for something to download and read this is the perfect read, you won’t be disappointed!
“You haunt me, Emma. Every damn thing about you does.”

This was my first book by Kristen Callihan and I really enjoyed it! 3.5 stars rounded up
From the moment they meet, Emma and Luc seem to have an almost instant connection. It's not instalove (thankfully) but there's a spark of chemistry that evolves into full-on flames as the story progresses. When we meet our MCs at the beginning, they've both just faced devastating upheavals to their professional and personal lives that have resulted in them needing to retreat from the public eye in order to deal with their hurts. Luc and Emma were both really likeable characters who were easy to empathise with. Luc is a former professional hockey player who was forced into early retirement as a result of one too many brain injuries. There's understandably a lot of anger and bitterness to him and he initially channels that into baking, and um, I don't know about you, but guys that bake are instant *heart eye emojis* for me, and Luc wore the sexy passionate baker hat to perfection!

This was very sweet. I may not have been in the mood for a sweet romance because it was just okay for me.

Take a break from life to rethink it, and you run into a ex famous hockey player and fall in love…. Yep but of course these books always have their turns, I do like smutty books but sometimes I feel like they can all be the same sometimes!

This book was everything between adorable and boring. It was a fun enough read that you wouldn't mind continuing, but, at the same time, you're always aware of the fact - you could be reading something much better.
My biggest problem with the book was that the main voices were the same. Both Lucian and Emma talked the same damn way, the only way you knew it was Lucian was if he said something about his dick.
The biggest plot point in the book happened SO late into the story, that they figured everything out the same chapter. There was SO much potential for the story, and I can imagine it could've been SUPER fun to know more about Emma and her career as well as Lucian's career, but instead we got a lot of dirty talk and little to no character development.
I do recommend it, it wasn't bad, and if you're looking for a light and fun read this would SO be it, however, if you're looking for some structure and story - head somewhere else.

- A hockey player hero forced into early retirement because of CTE
- Reader.... he whispers French to the heroine and makes her incredible desserts--- as he just happens to be an incomparable pastry chef
