Once again, T. Kingfisher is a delightful storyteller and delivers solid world-building while telling a spooky mystery. While I will say that What Moves The Dead blew me away and is my favorite so far, this novella was still a very enjoyable cozy horror read. It is a slower-burn, with less horror and more mystery, storytelling and dialogue. I look forward to following Alex Easton in the future Sworn Soldier series novellas.

A great second story, with maybe a bit more supernatural elements but still a well thought out and researched journey through Easton's life.

Alex Easton spends some time with Angus and Ms. Potter in a family hunting lodge in Galatia. A strange illness starts to affect the residents.
It was a fun horror story, sufficiently dark and gripping, but not as good as the first book, I think. Too many times I was thinking, “why don’t you just [do the obvious thing to get to safety]?” It was a bit frustrating.

Definitely not as good as the first.
i wanted it to be another fungus like the first but i suppose that would have been redundan . i was so disappointed by the ending
