It tore my heart out, mangled it, then shoved it back in. If you have tiny humans, don’t read this. You will be sobbing in the middle of the night then need to go check on your little ones and be tempted to wake them up so you can hold them.

I liked the story but overall felt like there were some plot holes or that the characters could have avoided lots of their problems if they did things a little differently which was frustrating to read

I figured out why I didn’t love the first one…not enough GILD! He’s the best part of these books. I needed even more of him in this one, too! What a great second book

So so very painful.

Full Review: I loved Marissa Meyer's Cinder series so much and will remain baffled by this long drawn out duology. She really could have edited the two books to get this down to one. It's repetitive and the character of Serilda is beyond exhausting. Serilda keeps doing dumb things and you just want to grab your hair in despair.

This was Meyer's take on Rumpelstiltskin, but I honestly preferred the original Fairy Tale to this.

DID NOT FINISH

I got hit with a pregnancy trope 2 chapters in and I can't do it. I'm literally so sad though because the first book in this duology was soooo good.

Two stars for the world building and a few decent twists.
Half the book could be cut.
The protagonist and every other character are either insufferably stupid or insipid. I've never shouted at a book when people do stupid shit or rooted for everyone to die.
Wish I had put it down.

I so forgot I was waiting to read this book until something popped up in the periphery of my brain. I then picked it up again, and I think I purchased it because I didn't want to have to continue waiting for someone else to finish it in their library. I love the lore woven into the plot and how Meyer was able to make a plot and series based on just Rumplestilskin.

I LOVED THIS OMG SO SO SO BEAUTIFUL. As always Marissa Meyers never misses. Wow this was SO much better than the first book. Serilda went through a lot of character growth and she actually developed a personality, which was nice. This was just so well-written and so well-researched. all themes were taken from German mythology, and it was very accurate (from what I learned). This diology was more plot heavy
, and the romance was more of a subplot. **spoiler sentence I thought that her relationship with Erlking would develop into something but was surprised that it didn’t **spoiler over**. The tie back to the story of Rumpelstiltskin was just so brilliant and so beautiful. I really loved this book so much it was such a fairy tale. So clever and such beautiful writing.  Ty Marissa u are a genius.
