I listened to the audiobook version of this and was blown away. Sissy Spacek did an excellent job of reading this book to me so she gets a star for that.

As for the book, I do not recall reading this in my younger years and decided, maybe now was a good time. I'm glad I did. I was not disappointed. A great book.

I would have HATED this book if I had to read it in high school. I needed to read this book at this time in my life.

I read this for class so that might explain why I didn't like the book so much. I think the themes that it discusses are very important obviously and the book was ahead of its time. However I couldn't connect to the characters at all and found the book to be boring because nothing really happens until the last 10 pages. I probably even have to reread this book before the exam because I can't really remember all the characters.

this book was mainly focused on the white characters when it should’ve been more about the black characters, as that’s what the story is about. i found it a little weird how the plot that the book describes only started like halfway through, but i’ll be fine. i did like the fact that it was written from a young child’s perspective. it shows how naive children are when it comes to topics like racism
