This book is an irresistible blend of humor, heat, and heart. Following Truly Livingston and Colin McCory, two contrasting souls entangled in a podcast project, the narrative explores the messiness of love through a queer lens. Their initial friction quickly transforms into a captivating connection, weaving a tale that's as thought-provoking as it is steamy. Bellefleur captures the complexities of navigating love amidst personal turmoil, making the characters' journey deeply relatable. The witty banter and genuine moments of vulnerability between Truly and Colin added layers to their romance in contemporary queer fiction. It is a delightful, heartfelt read that's entertaining and emotionally resonant.
OMG, what a sweet story!
Truly Livingston (St. James) is an expert on happily-ever-afters going through a life crisis on her own happily-ever-afters.
Colin McCory is a family (divorce) lawyer who is cynical, snarky, and extremely hot. When they meet on his sister's podcast worlds collide and crash in spectacular flames. Flames that are fanned both by their difference in opinion and their insta-attraction to each other.
She is ready to never speak to him again, but when he tracks her down to apologize a friendship of sorts forms as Truly discovers how great a guy Colin is and how much they have in common. But can she let herself love?
I really loved this novel, I enjoyed their banter, and the spice, WOW! But I loved how both characters are both self-aware and awkwardly unaware. How they are not perfect and perfect all at the same time, and how reasonably communicative they are.
Honestly, it's a 4.5-star read for me, but Goodreads only does full-stars.
So why not a five if it was so good? We get a lot of backstory and details on Truly's life and work, but for a lawyer, small town or not, Colin has a lot of free time and doesn't seem to dress the part very much. Not that I'm not cool with what he wears and his ability to chill. But as someone who worked in the legal world, I know how much time that takes away from their personal life and how decidedly not casual lawyers typically are and I feel that Bellefleur did Colin a disserve by not at least explaining why Colin is different of give some idea to is work life.

I’m bummed to say this was really disappointing! Enemies to friends? There is literally one scene in the entire book where there’s banter.
I loved the premise of a podcast between a romance writer and a divorce attorney, but again, we get one scene, and then nothing with content from this podcast ever again.
With romance novels we *know* that these folks are going to make it work in the end but the journey is why we read. None of the conflict in the book is actually between the main characters.
Smutty scenes? Hot. But who cares if the story isn’t there!

“I mean, who even has a Yahoo address anymore?”“I don’t know, hon.” Lulu looked away from the box of brightly colored butt plugs she was inventorying, clipboard in hand. “People over the age of seventy-two?”“Or sociopaths.”
“I suppose I would’ve learned whether you ever replace that stick up your ass with something a little more fun.”
“As long as you continue to use your creeper powers for good, not evil, who am I to complain?”
“Ah, Woodinville.” She nodded. “Nice place. Um, good wine.”“Oh, yeah. The wine really was the highlight of my childhood.”
Her ego doesn’t need inflating.”“Neither does my dick, for the record.”
sacrificing communication for the pretense of peace. But peace doesn’t mean the absence of conflict.
“That’s the thing, you don’t want your parents to be happy; you want them to be together.”
“Are you insinuating that I’m some kind of control freak?”“Hon, you waved goodbye at controlling as you passed it miles back.”
“He’s cute, but Christ, who said anything about a relationship?”
You’re so good at what you do, Truly.
there’s no such thing as being queer enough. Action and attraction are two different things. You could go the rest of your life never dating a woman and it wouldn’t change a thing. If anything, I think you’re the perfect person to talk about bi-erasure in media because you spent the last six years in a straight-presenting relationship that was queer because you’re queer. And the gender of your partner? Doesn’t change that.”
“Here lies Colin Beyn McCrory, he died doing what he loved most—eating pussy.”
“How the hell have you made it this long without getting scurvy?” Truly crossed her arms. “Um, maybe because I’m not a pirate during the seventeenth century, Colin.”
“I’m saying I turn into a real bitch when I’m hungry.”“Hm.” He opened the fridge. “And that’s different than the rest of the time, how?”
“Oh, did you think because I’m a romance author that I like candlelit dinners and grand gestures? We’re experiencing late-stage capitalism, McCrory. Health care’s hot.”
“Remember this moment in twenty years. Can’t wait to tell you I told you so.”
caffeine and kisses are the way to your heart in the morning. Good to know.”“Caffeine’s better.”
